BUG: Screen freezes but game continues

I recently bought GC3 and it's seemingly unplayable due to a strange bug. I've tried to run the game three times, and all three times very early on in the game the screen will freeze. It looks as if the game is frozen, but if I click around randomly I can hear the mouse responding to icons. So technically the game is still running in the background, even though the screen is frozen and stuck on a single image. When this happens I have to alt-tab out and force the program to end. Can anyone help me with this?

 

My system:

GC3 Steam version

Windows 10 64-bit

8 gigs  RAM

Intel Core i5 3.2

Intel HD 4600 graphics card.
