Interface suggestion

There are 2 things that have bothered me about the interface:

1. Unless I am doing it wrong, I cannot go scroll around in the technology tree without inadvertently changing what I am researching. I know I can always change it back before I leave, but this can be annoying especialy if I forget, plus if I am scrolling on my opponents turn and it becomes suddelly my turn, I suppose I will waste a turn of research on wahatever I was looking at? But anyway I have frequently left that screen having changed what I was researching without realizing it.

2. The ideology screen works in the opposite way - often not responding to what I am clicking, so I leave that screen having selected nothing at all.

At the very least the screens should work the same, but I would prefer making it easier to scroll around in the tech tree window without always portantially changing what I research. I dont have the whole thing memorized, so on my opponents turn I like to start planning out ahead a little bit.

So how about forcing a click on a specific item to change research, and not on the main tree headings and then auto-selecting whatever is first in the tree, which is what it appears to do now.

1. Don't click techs while dragging.

2. Ideology requires you to click the "unlock" button.

They do work exactly the same in every respect except the unlock button.

You can double click on an ideology and it will unlock that ideology, but not close the ideology window.  You cannot double click on a technology selection in the tech tree display and have something happen.  You can, however, double click on a technology selection in the technology list display and that will select the technology for research and close the window.  They are not exactly consistent, no.

Ok I dont think either of you really got what my issue is, and maybe its not an issue for you I dont know. Maybe you have the tech tree memorized and never want to go look around in it.

My problem is if I am researching some particular tech in say the colonization tree, and I click on the warfare tree, just to look at it, then BAM! I have changed what I am researching, I am now researching whatever was at the top of the warfare tree, I didnt even have to click it. If I dont go back and click what I was researching before I exit the tech tree I will be on a different research path.

I have done it so many times that now I have memorized that I have to do this (unintuitive to me) thing, but I really wish it wasnt so. I would prefer to have to actually click on a tech to research it, the same way I have to do in the ideology tree. And if by some chance I cant remember what I was researching (which can happen if you are returning to a saved game you havent played in awhile) then "oops".

So, again, I wish they worked the same, or just change the technology window so you have to click on a specific technology to change research to that technology.

i do have to click a different tech to change what i am researching

The best I can see is that it doesn't happen to me unless I click inside one of the other techs in the other screens.  So I don't do that.  Then I can look at the other branches.  I notice that you can single click on a specialization choice spot and expand it without actually selecting one of the specializations.  So, if you are clicking in the white space on the other pages and that is changing your selection, you should definitely submit a ticket.

hmm...well thats odd. I suppose it explains why no one else has complained about it, but it doesnt explain why it happens to me!

Another odd thing I have that I have seen no complaints about is that the text for what resources you are mining at the top right area of the screen runs over itself and I cant read it properly...I wonder if its related.

The only thing i can think of is in the initial window there is an option to continue research along same path stop selecting that.

Well I dont even know what that is...what initial window are you talking about? Anyway I dont think I am selecting it, I cant even find it.

Ok, so....really? For everyone else while you are researching something, if you open up the technology window and click on a different tree only (not on a specific tech) and then leave the technology window, it does NOT change what you are researching? Only me?

This would be a very strange bug indeed.
