1)why do some skins get downloaded more than others? - why are they better?

2) whats wrong or right about my skins (wb and ob - search under 'spinal')?

Could it be that, as I, few are familiar with Amiga?

Yet your skins do appear to be quite nice, so, nothing wrong there.

I think, many are facinated with the "more complex" than anything else.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it, but just keep pushing on.

I think your skins are a bit 'to simple' NOT in the way they are made, but in the way they look, just have a look at copperdeck II.
By copperdeck II there isn't any window$ feeling anymore, it dasn't remind you to windows in any possible way. It also helps when a skin has more components, like cursor xp, iconpackager and all the stuff, so it captures you hole system.

but...on the other hand...

Look at any skin by Essorant...*very* clean, simple, sharp straight edges, clearly defined buttons, graphics.

there's nothing wrong with your skins at all...Gooey is a fine skin. Has some detail in it, but nothing flashy...good all around skin.

Don't concern yourself with numbers of downloads or what may be right or wrong. Make skins which please you! That's what skinning is about. Some people have a knack of producing popular skins - doesn't mean they're any better than others.

Just keep doing your stuff.

thanks guys, as you can see, im not much of a designer, i havent the experience or the skill, but i do like skins to be simple, i dont like having to look for buttons or anything like that.

Being able to make a simple skin is not as easy as one would think it would be. I have been trying since I started skinning and to date have not been successful.

I would recommend to keep your simplistic design style and just embelish on them a bit. The highest rated/downloaded skins are the simple designs.

Study the great Essorant's 'Chiffre'- which is, in my opinion, simply the greatest Windowblinds skin to ever be made.

(Like your amiga skins too, BTW - I just /hate/ the Workbench look. Even when I had my old Ami 500, which I loved, I loathed the Workbench. ^_^)
