You might consider that Object Zip is included in Object Desktop and favortism is top priority here. Don't get me started on skin ratings

I think Object Zip is tied into skin downloads. When I download any other zip it opens in WInzip but Windowblinds is unzipped automatically.

I don't know what does that but I LIKE IT.

Like it? I hate when it happens with Gozilla...

I dunno, I uninstalled it because of the zip function. If it is, I am glad that I did.

Hum... Don't need Winzip or Object Zip. I just zip/unzip with XP's built-in "compressed folder" feature.

What's spanning again? Spliting a file in different chunks?
No, XP's compressed folder is pretty basic: compress and uncompress. But that's al I need.

The rare times I have to split a file in chunks, I use the RAR format (Winrar).

I use ZipCentral...........

So, just curious. You people who use all those other zip programs, why?
Do you realy use spanning or self-extracting EXE's a lot?

I just find it very convenient to just use XP's built-in feature. A zip file opens just like a folder. You'd almost wouldn't even know it's a zip. And zipping is just as easy: right-click >> Send to >> Compressed Folder. Voila.

Dunno, maybe it's too easy and people like to complicate things.

Hey, great tip, paxx

/me didn't know that and always ignored that compressed folder on 'right click' thing before!

It works!

Dunno, paxx. Ultimate Zip also opens .RAR files, .ACE files.. etc. So all in all, its a one-in-all utility.

I use power-archive, mainly because we get dbf's sent compressed and split for recovery of data at times and no one seems to use the samething, PowerArchive works with all compression formats, pc, mac and unix alike...

Don't like zips that act like folders, and with ZipCentral I can usually drag any renamed zip (logonxp, wba, etc.) into the window, without renaming. There are other things I like about ZC, over other zip programs I've tried. I've been using ZC almost as long as I been using a computer, so it's like an old friend. .

While we're on the subject of zipping........... people should open the zips they create and remove anything unnecessary, such as 'Thumbs.db' in some cases the Thumbs.db are quite large, and are of no value to anyone other than the zipper. I remember one download (I won't mention by who ) that included a 1.5 meg thumbs.db ,........... on a dialup, which some of us are condemned to use, that's a big chuck of time wasted.

/me uses winzip ever since it popped on the scene as a front end for PKzip....

Good point Koasati - also don't forget with Windowblinds skins to remove any .WBD files or the temp files Skin Studio creates.

/me Spanning comes in handy when putting a program onto a floppies. Why not a disk? It is a re-writeable thing.

/me The self extractor comes in handy when zipping cursors and putting the exe in the cursorxp zip. Wincustomize will upload an exe file if it is zipped. It also makes it a lot easier for anyone that wants to use the .cur/.ani files to have them unzipped into a folder in the windows cursor folder.

Just plain old madness running rampant!

I think I know~~~

Win-zip is one of those programs that does it's own thing in it's own time and doesn't require an icon.

Most of the functions are right click and zip this or zip and email that and all those things. CLicking an icon to open the program seems unneeded.

*grins* So are CD-RWs. I don't even have a floppy drive any longer. ^_^

Well - I guess I can say I do - I have a removeable LS-120 module for my old Thinkpad, but I've never once used it. It has an RW too. ^.^

(Just a relatively harmless and pointless observance from yours truly!)
