Theme Manager

I recently stumbled upon this site while searching for themes for XP and have a quick question. In the past when applying themes, I've always just downloaded the themes and manually kinda implemented them myself through windows properties to the best of my ability. Including icons, pointers, sounds, etc.

Is it much more worth it to purchase a windows theme manager such as WinStyles to handle this chore or is it for the lazy ones who have money to waste?

If it is a good idea to own a theme manager, what is the preferred package? Is it WinStyles-- is there a better one out there? Any help would be appreciated.

It all boils down to how much time you have to make your computer output look good. If you're one of those people who work a lot, but enjoy changing the appearance once in a while so you don't go insane looking at the same thing over and over, then you might need the program. If you're one of those people who has time to do everything by hand, then save yourself the money. Speaking from personal experience, though, I do believe things like that gets a bit too tedious.

Seeing that this site is hosted by Stardock, we are definitely going to tell you/promote the applications made by that company. However, it is up to you to do some research of your own.

I rarely use WinStyles (mostly because I'm not too crazy about most of the style packages out there), but I definitely think OD is worth purchasing

Download the trial versions first and try it out. If you find it to your liking, then come on back and make a purchase

and please keep in mind that winstyles will download skins for applications you may not already have. For instance, it will most likely download a Windowblinds skin. If you don't have windowblinds, Winstyles will ask you if you would like to download and install it. Same thing if the winstyles theme has a NextSTART theme in it, or a Sysmetrix theme, etc.

I am very bias towards ObjectDesktop but IMHO it is the best buy/bargan on this site because it contains pretty near all of the programs necessary to implement the various things available via this site. As Mikey would say: "Try it, you'll like it!" I don't know how much talent you possess to make all of these changes to your system but I-Candy aside the applets are also very handy and productive. Like a desktop object that looks like an icon but actually ties back to your email program and lets you know if there is mail available so you don't have to check yourself.
