How do I convert a program to a desktop Icon in windows 10 since right clicking option is not there in Windows 10

I noticed that Windows 10 does not let me convert desktops from the start menu.

Right click program in start menu....open file location...right click program file in explorer...send to desktop as shortcut...;)

Wundows 10 only gives me an option to pin to start, pin on the taskbar, or uninstall when I right click on the all apps list. This is the new name of the all programs list in the start menu for windows 10. Though I did notice you could still do this with file explorer.

You 'should' get the option to 'open file location' which gets you to the executable via explorer.exe and from there you 'send to desktop-create shortcut'.

Oh...unless that's a function enabled by Start 10 ....in which case it's yet another good reason to use Start 10 ....;)

I got this......

Then this, and upon right click, send to desktop........

I get this, and it won't launch.

Just sayin.

It works as Jafo says if the shortcut is not a modern app.

it's not.

in Windows you just drag and drop a tile from the start menu to the desktop. works with all types of applications.

Moshi, I get the same result as I showed in reply 5.

I dragged the calculator app off the Start10 start menu, and I get a blank icon that is labeled "app" and it does not launch.

Search for calc.exe. Right click on it. Click on create shortcut. Click "yes" when you get the window that says "Can't create shortcut here. Do you want it placed on the desktop instead?"

Just tried on Win 10 64 bit.

that's either a Fences or a Start10 (or both) bug then.

it's probably Start10, but if you'd try to drag and drop from Start10 to an Explorer Windows and that would work, then Fences is to blame.

i use neither ( i think the Windows 10 start menu is the best ever), so Windows works as intended here.

Duh, and then he hits his head! I just dragged, and dropped on windows 10. It worked. Thanks for the help. Don't remember why I didn't try that earlier.
