Hrm - no clue from me either!

I'd think the largest windowblinds name allowed would be the windows limit of 255 characters - but the largest that wincustomize would allow? Dunno.

I don't think it would be mouse over but mouse-over. Iespell. In the device manager of XP is a section for mice and other printing devices. I just figured that XP doesn't mouse-over but mice-over

Answer to 5: I think that the city would be warmer than the country because the heat would be trapped between the buildings and also from the heat being emitted from the vehicles and buildings. The country would not have then things and so would be colder. Make sense?

Question 4: Because they were bored at the budget department. And because they are the US goverment. They can afford it.

You want to be careful not to make the directory for the skin to have too many characters because there is a limit on the path size in the UIS file. A skin's name doesn't have to be used for the directory name though.

Try to keep the name reasonable, a few words or so should be ok, a paragraph would not.

In the "Update" dialog you can change the name of a skin. I've never tried doing this so I'm not sure if it will work, but it looks like it's possible.

oh - forgot one... I'm not sure what you mean in #3. What is the first frame in the XP start menu panel background?
Reply #12 Top
[StartMenu.ButtonBackground]Tile=0
BottomHeight=0
LeftWidth=0
RightWidth=15
TopHeight=0
Image=O Shoot\Panel Item Bg.bmp
TileBottom=0
TileLeft=0
TileRight=0
TileTop=0
PerPixel=0
Alpha=255
Trans=1
FrameCount=2
GlyphAlpha=255

In 3.5 both frames show but in the alpha only the second frame shows.

'mouse over' would be handled the same as 'pass over'...which becomes 'passed over', ergo 'moused over'... Spell checker

Of course in this example 'to mouse' becomes a verb and all we are talking about is a past tense of it...

See? All the difficult Q's are A'd...

1: How many characters are allowed in a windowblinds skin name? Wincustomize protocol.

1: I don't know, try to keep it under the 10 i think...

2: Is it possible to change an uploaded skin name without loosing the downloads? IOW Updating a skin with a new name. I never done that before and wonder if it will destroy the current downloads.

2: don't know for sure, but if you keep the file name the same, it should be ok, the title of the skin dasn't have anything to do with it.

3: WHy won't the first frame in the XP start menu panel background show in the alpha? 2 images tiled but only miced over image shows.

3: try to press F5 (refresh) else, the code is not right.

4: Why did the US govt have to spend millions of dollars to determine if it is colder on a cloudy day? Are they recluses where they don't go outside?

4: Why is the president of the U.S.A. bush??

5: THis one is for the US govt. Is it colder in the city or the country

5: I will take it anyway, in the country, in the city you have that nice work gasses from the cars

I uploaded an image of the start menu. Sometimes when I reload the skin I can mouse over the menu and the first frame will show.

In this image I moi-ced over part of the menu. WHat is showing should be showing ALL the time. That is the first frame.

OK now I get it...

Try removing this part:
FrameCount=2
GlyphAlpha=255

or change Frame Count= to 3 and remove the GlyphAlpha= line

Change Alpha=255 to Alpha=
(with no value, though that should be the same effect as 255)

oops... I was thinking of the logoff buttons background, that has 3 frames. The background you're talking about has 2.

Try taking the spaces out of the image file name and I'll go look at some more possibilities. I think the "GlyphAlpha" line is unnecessary though.
Reply #20 Top
I've never put spaces in an image file's name, I'm not sure if that's a problem but it could be. The Frames= statement shouldn't be there. Try setting the Apha= to 254 and remove the GlyphAlpha statement. Check your margin settings for the background, I notice you only have a "right" margin set.

my best shot for first thing in the morning...

David thanks for the help but that didn't work. I didn't put the glyph code in but skinstudio did. I removed that and took out the spaces in the name and that didn't help.

This problem only happens with the alpha version. With 3.5 the first frame shows.

[StartMenu.ButtonBackground]
Tile=0
BottomHeight=0
LeftWidth=0
RightWidth=15
TopHeight=0
Image=O Shoot\Panel_Item_Bg.bmp
TileBottom=0
TileLeft=0
TileRight=0
TileTop=0
PerPixel=0
Alpha=
Trans=1
FrameCount=2
GlyphAlpha=
Reply #22 Top
See what happens if you take out the FrameCount=2 statement.
Set Alpha=254

Which Alpha version are you running?

btw - if you want to email me the skin I'll see if I can figure it out here. I'll be away for a few hours today (stacking firewood) but I'd be glad to check it out when I'm back.

I sent the skin after I tried the last suggestion and it was a no go.
