Where’s that apple skin?

Where’s that apple skin?

Where’s that apple skin for desktop x, not sure who the author was, it was in the top downloads. I went to download it today and it gone. I hate it when artist remove their work, epically when it’s really good.

like Eddie Izzard doing his bit about England giving back all it's colonies and holding India and the Falkland Islands behind his back... England... Wuaaa, whats that behind your back, oh, all right it's just India and some silly little Islands which are a strategic location for Sheep Hearding protection ... give em back, oh all right, here...

Kind of blows me away here we are over 200 years later and the USA has allowed the arrogance and ignorance of old like that to fester and grow to the point of almost being a national motto...

AHHH duck and cover time !!!

It's not the "Apple" in the name that is the issue. It is the use of the Apple logo.

so what. look at page 1 of this thread. there are plenty of skins on this site that infringe the Apple logo. not to speak of the PixOS premium suite where even money is made with the Apple scrollbars. this site has double-standards quite often

I'd sill change the name, because the use of Apple *is* against their registered trade mark of the word Apple and they ly it out how you can-not mix it with other words even...

The site would be best for reading on the subject and go by what is located there. I say this because it could be very costly to not fully understand their and your legal position in use of the Copyrighted and Registered Trademaked material..

anyway....

moshi, there is also the "OK, this is enough" factor.

We did the same with the XP when everybody was trying to make a XP skin. We allowed the first few, but after a while, we just stopped accepting XP skins altogether.

or "Think Different"

dang keyboard is sticky, what I get for letting my daughter play disney online while eating buttered pop corn, which I didn't know about until after the fact...

ugh....

Moshi, read the other thread on this by Adam Solley and read what Jafo says.

Plus, we are not talking about the "look". We are talking about using the logo. The actual Apple logo.

PixOS is quite different than OSX. Compare the two side by side and you will see. Not everything that has a gel appearance to it is a copy of OSX.

And, as Paxx said, the line has to be drawn somewhere. We don't need Apple coming after us. That's just too big of a pain to deal with.

Hey Adam I just email you. Can you get that skin to me? I want to see what has got everyone in a fuss about.
OK, it appears that people do not know what "logo" means.

You know the apple with a bite out of it that apple uses as a visual representation of itself? That is the Apple logo. It is tradmarked and they get really mad when you use it. It has nothing to do with the name of the skin.

yep your correct Karamgirl, some don't seem to:

(Unauthorized Use of Apple Trademarks)

1. Company, Product, or Service Name: You may not use or register, ( in whole or in part,( Apple )), Macintosh, iMac, or any other Apple trademark, including Apple-owned graphic symbols, logos, icons, or an alteration thereof, as or as part of a company name, trade name, product name, or service name except as specifically noted in these guidelines.

I have a OS X skin BUT not any of em have ANY logs.

the information continues to explain that you have to purchase the rights for use of those things.... It is all on the link up further in this thread and pretty clear...

but it really doesn't matter...

all I ment from the negining when first pointing that link out, was for people to read and consider so they can make their own choice about it all...

For myself the point is moot as I wouldn't do it, done worked that out personally. For others? As I said, it's their choice.

For Wensites provinding downloads?

Their choice again...

but it would be a hell of a thing to get a summons, or have someone standing at the front door to the office one morning with leal papers demanding they be allow unfettered access and if deamed needed, to remove all IT equpiment from the building all over a, oops, didn't know that.

I know that is a bit extream, but, even an extream possibility should be looked over and considered...

anyway... I'm appled out... on to Carrots...

Adam, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about LCARS Federation, will you be making a 1024 version, as us with smaller screens seem to get left out

I did notice that the skins in the search didn't resemble Mac exctly, and actually did not work like Mac OS x. I do remember when this debate happened before the problem actually wasn't the logos so much... Macintosh believed that the way the Gui worked and such was meant only for macintosh users, and to be able to use it without a macintosh was taking their money... as for those bits and peices, and themes in the search.. they were wonderfull themes... but fell short of completely moching the macintosh expierence... possibly.. just my opinion...

and as for me... I would rather have my own custom look than mimic someone else... I didn't get desktop x, and window blinds to have a copy of something I don't have... I bought these programs so I have something totally different... and pix os was all custom... no original graphics were used... from any os... the scroll bars, while slightly similair to those in Mac os... are in many ways different...

I've just contacted Food Lion, Win dixie, Publix and Andersons...They have agreed to rtename apples to 'large friggin grapes'....this should at least keep them out of lawsuits for a while....

They did not, however, agree to renaming MACadamia nuts to 'Those weird nuts from Hawaii'. They thought people might confuse them with goodmorphing.....go figure...

Goodmorphing.....sorry....You are loved!!!

Why aren't Apple taking legal action against greengrocers for using the word apple for a certain fruit of that name?
