Possible bug  Beta 2:

I have a fence configured called "Excel" that contains an excel spreadsheet.

I also have a "Files & Documents" fence that is set to "Place new icons into this fence by default"

If I open the excel file and "Save" it, the icon jumps from my "Excel" fence to my "Files & Documents" fence.

Also, no matter what I do, I cannot get any fence to "Roll Up" (Is enabled and set to 'double click')

Fences 2.90

When using OD Manager to upgrade to Fences 2.91, the file downloads but does not install.

Running the Fences 3 2.91.exe file manually, installation requires the uninstall of the previous version.

Control Panel>programs and Features shows only Fences 2.0 v2.01, but I did find the uninstall.exe in the Fences folder.

Is there anyway to upgrade from 2.90 to 2.91 without having to uninstall anything first? Would rather not have to completely reset all my Fence groups.

Thanks,

David

You don't have to. I uninstalled the older version and installed the new one and everything was like before...

Yeah, your Fences layout should restore when you install the latest version.

 I have the latest beta.

Love the double click to have the fence disappear form the desktop and the roll up feature.

What I don't like is with the fence showing on the desktop and you double click on an icon to open a program, folder. The fence disappears from the desktop and you have to double click it again to make it show. Is there a setting I missed that would stop this?

Example: I open say SKS. Now I want to open it again for a different skin to work on. When I minimize the first one to the system trey I have to double click the desktop again to open Fences. I would like it to remain open till I want to hide it. Because when a program is open you don't see the desktop anyway.

werewolf, don't use ODM. It is buggy. Download your programs directly from the Stardock account, My Downloads.

Having problems actually installing the beta 2.91 as I'm getting an installation error.

Running Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Build 14251.rs1_release.160124-1059

I uninstalled previously working OK fences 2.13 and rebooted prior to trying to install the beta.

Started to install fences 3 beta 2.91. Almost immediately got a sharing violation error on fencesmenu.dll and the installation programs hangs and needs to be killed.

No specific anti-virus running, just Microsoft's own.

Successfully installed 2.90, but can't get the fences to "roll up" when double-clicked. Am I missing something? I have turned off the auto-hide feature.

Roll up is only available in the 2.91 version.

Cool new stuff!

Roll-up, etc. seems to work fine here.

I still have the problem with Translucency not working on any monitor except the Primary.  On my other monitors to the left and right of the primary, it remains opaque rather than Translucent.

Also, if the screens refresh with a new Driver update, etc. the Fences on the secondary monitors move to the Primary.  Any fences on the Primary work fine and restore to their proper places.

Is this something that will be fixed in the next beta?

RE:Translucency - Is your secondary monitor connected to the same video card?

RE: Updating video driver - We've seen the second issue you describe. It really has to do with the drivers being installed and however it's interacting with the registry or display settings. You may need to restore a snapshot or move them back over.

FWIW, the crashing I saw with the fences disappearing for me ended up being an issue with windows 10 itself that appears to have been resolved with build 14251 (though I am currently running 14257 and have not encountered the issue either but its only been a few hours)

Yes.  Three monitors attached to the same nVidia 970 card (2560x1600 per monitor).  Doesn't matter if it's connected via DisplayPort or DVI, etc.  Windows 10 x64 (everything updated).  Latest nVidia hotfixed drivers, but the problem has existed throughout all of the recent driver and OS updates.

Can you download and run the tool below:

http://sd.stardock.com/Support/supportToolTest/SDSupportTool.exe

Then attach the .zip that's created and send it in with a ticket to support. With your ticket, if you could also link to this forum post, it would be most helpful:

If I get fences 2 for my laptop will I have to pay again for Fences 3?

I would like to see an answer to this question. I already purchased a copy of fences 2 a month ago and was planning on picking up another copy today but if it's not going to upgrade to 3 that feels like a serious downer now.

Have you planned a touch screen mode to resize the fences ?

I'd imagine if your touch is simulating the mouse cursor completely, then you should be able to use touch to perform a resize easy enough. Is it not working now? (You can try the 30 day trial if you wish to attempt it)

If within 30 days Fences 3 is released from the day of your purchase, you would get Fences 3 on your account to keep. Otherwise, most likely as with many other Stardock app upgrades, you would purchase the upgrade to Fences 3 at a reduced price. ( I do not know how much that would be, so you will need to wait until the release)

Thanks, holding off on my purchase then

I'm loving Fences 3. Really love the 'Roll-Up' option! Nice.

I have only one little issue.

My 'Rolled-Up' fences like to drop icons. They will roll back up and leave an icon all alone on the desktop and I have to put it back in the fence. Suddenly, I'm herding icons. lol. It doesn't happen every time, but often enough that it's annoying.

Eyefinity/souround support?

I am wondering if fences 3.0 will fix the problem caused from switching between regular desktop mode to multi monitor mode (3 monitors one screen).I know on v2 of fences, when you switch from regular desktop to multi mode, fences stretches over all 3. I want it to stay in the centre screen like in regular mode.

1.Please add aspect ratio lock, to prevent stretching

2. Also add the ability to select middle, right or left for where the fences will be when switching to multi monitor (3 monitors one screen)

I'm not a beta user so forgive me if these function are already there. I'm just hoping they will be there when it is released.

I noticed when using Fences, that the "details" header (like Date, Size etc...) are reset to the default set of details after a restart. I have a Folder portal set to only have NAME and DATE MODIFIED (I also use the option to "hide details header"), but the details get reset to the default set of details after a restart. I'm on Windows 10 Pro 64bit with latest Fences 3 beta installed. I also noticed that when adding/removing detail header categories that the actual file list appears "glitchy" until you scroll the list, like its not updating visually. This is minor since its only temporary after making changes, but perhaps an automatic "refresh" of the portal after making these changes would be a workaround for this small issue. As for the header details going to default on restart, maybe it's not saving it somewhere, or not loading the settings during start-up.

UPDATE: I just noticed that updating from "fences 2" to "fences 3 beta" is bugged. The Object Desktop Manager was showing that the beta 3 update was successfully installed, but upon refreshing the "MANAGE" screen, it would still show that a fences 3 beta update was available. I fixed this by uninstalling fences 2, and then installing fences 3. The issues described above are still present.

UPDATE 2: I found another bug with the "Allow Navigation" feature on folder portals. If the title text is longer than the fence, you can't mouse-over to click on the "navigate back" arrow icon.

Question: I want to put a roll-up fence at the bottom of my desktop, but the default behavior for rolled-up fences has it opening downwards and off the screen no matter where I place the fence. Is there a way to switch the position of the title bar so I can place rolled-up fences at the bottom of my desktop?

Bug: While playing around with creating and moving fences, I suddenly could no longer transfer items between individual fences by dragging and dropping. I also could not move icons that were on the general desktop and not in any fences yet. I could still double click on individual icons and folders to open them. I'm not sure what triggered this issue.

Another bug I have noticed occurs when switching between monitors with different resolutions. No matter which option I choose in the "Layout auto-adjustments" menu, my fences eventually get displaced quite dramatically. They end up overlapping each other and often get placed outside the screen.
