Use Pic Websites?

Does anyone know if there are any websites where I can download more user pics, you know the ones that are beside the name on the start menu?..... I've tried using wmy wallpapers but they don't seem to be the right size, they look more widescreen than square.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to http://www.originalicons.com/

They are meant to be AIM buddy icons, but they're the same size, s you can use any of those. Just save any of those icons to use as your XP user icon.

Warning: I believe this site used to have loads of popup. It doesn't seem to have any anymore, but I have popup blocking, so I don't know for sure.

You can easily make your own, they have to be I think 48 by 48 pixels although some of mine are 50 by 50 and they work just fine.... anything in that range will work. Just do a cut and paste on your own stuff to that size and they will work.
I always make my own.... or sometimes borrow them from other sources... which is fine as long as you don't try to upload them anywhere else as your own work...

Oh, I forgot to ask.. where do I save them too? Is it just c:\Windows?

Just save it anywhere you want. Then open the USers menu in the Control Panel, and it'll let you change the icon there. Just browse for it.

I created a folder specifically for them.... it doesn't really matter where you put them as long as you can find it later....

If you want them to appear in your list without having to browse for them every time, put them in this folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\Default Pictures

And you don't have to go in your control panel to change the picture. In your Start menu, just click on the actual user icon itself.

It's a hidden folder Blondie. You have to set Windows to display hidden folder names.

I'm not sure about XP, but on 2000 I pull up my computer, go to 'Tools', 'Folder Options' and 'View' then click on the 'Show hidden files and folders' radio button.

Hope that helps.

wow!! this is cool info! as a deviant art member I see all kinds of user icons (for use one the website) and have been very interested in making my own just for the user start panel for XP or for object bar. This is really helpful.

Great question Mrs Blondie66. By asking your question, you helped more people then just yourself.
