Your Fences license has expired.

Active Subscription - Windows 10

Hello all:

Just this week I started to receive a pop-up message saying, "Your Fences license has expired.  Please select one of the below options."  The options are to enter the product key or purchase the product key.

I have an active subscription and when I click enter product key and then either past in the key or activate with my Stardock account, I receive the "Thank You! Fences has been successfully activated." message.  But they when I double-click to hide my desktop icons the expired pop-up returns.  I've rebooted, deleted the License.sig file, typed in the license, pasted in the license, etc. all to no avail.

I'm running Windows 10 and had this issue over the weekend and was able to activate Fences but today the pop-up expired message is back and won't go away.

Thank you,

Jim

Most likely it's a permissions issue with Windows 10. Right click the folder where your Stardock license is stored. Select properties, then security. Find your name in the list and if you have full permissions, deselect them and then select them again. Click apply and ok. Then click ok again and you should be good. Try activating afterwards if prompted.

Thank you for the suggestion.  After checking/updating permissions I still receive the license expired message.

Do you have any anti-virus that may be removing the license file?

Can you download and run the tool below:

http://sd.stardock.com/Support/supportToolTest/SDSupportTool.exe

Then attach the .zip that's created and send it in with a ticket to support:

I do have anti-virus, as I have always had, but I don't think it is stripping the license file as I see it in the folder.  When I delete the license file and re-enter the license code a new file is created.

I've opened a ticket with support including the file created from the SupportTool.

Thank you,

Jim

I was able to finally resolve my issue by uninstalling Fences and then deleting the Fences2 folder in Program Data folder (C:\ProgramData\Stardock) and reinstalling Fences.  Note that I had previously uninstalled and reinstalled Fences without success.  The difference this time was manually deleting the Fences2 folder as the uninstaller program leaves this folder with the Cache.dat file intact.  I'm now suspecting that the Cache.dat may have been the culprit.

I rebooted in between uninstalling and reinstalling to be sure nothing was left after the uninstall.
