Need help with a Riddle!

Three guys are stranded on the road and decide to head to a hotel. The clerk tells them its $30 dollars for a room, so each guy antes up $10 dollars and they go to their room.
The clerk goes 'Oh, I've made a mistake, it was only $25 dollars' and gives the maid the extra $5 dollars to give back to the guys.
The maid thinks...well $5 dollars cant be split 3 ways so she takes $2 dollars and gives each guy $1 dollar.
So... now each guy paid $9 dollars and the maid has $2 dollars. That only adds up to $29.
Where did the extra $1 dollar go?
This has me stumped, I really do not know the answer.
