And there is a modem out that makes multi connections to speed it up. They just allowed it not too long ago. I don't know where to find it. I just remember reading about it.

I wonder if 1.5mbp/s can be boosted any higher Maybe I'll try the tweeks and see. I wish my computer could handle the speed.. It tends to crash if I try too much.

Mine would be faster but they need to lay more Fiber Optic lines here in this city.. In State College, it's sweet since everything is fiber.

Jeez man, how could yo go from 600kbps to 3.4mbps?

Maybe when you tested your speed at that time you weren't gettin a good connection? If not, more power to you.

: hrm - thats wierd - pcpitstop saya I'm at 3465 Kb/s down - cool!

It would probably depend on the size of the download for the test...
Too small a size and the faster it pumps it to you, hence the results...

example of running my connection at the different levels it will register at...

:
T1/Cable/DSL bandwidth test (500 KBytes)

RESULTS NOT AVAILABLE. Your download time was under 1 second. You should retest your bandwidth using a larger block size (i.e., higher connection speed test).

The joys of cable... we have a 3.5Mb connection, and my speeds on the testers always ranges anywhere from 0.6 to 2.9.

The cable's speeds vary dramatically with the number of active users.....
It ranges from sucks to almost pretty good.....
and of course, I shouldn't complain since it is always better than dial-up

And most of the time still faster than DSL.

Well, except with our upstream. With our cable we get shafted on that. Great downstream, but only a 128k upstream. O.o

Weaksid, you might want to contact your ISP and or Phone Company and ask them how far you are from the CO..

1 distance from CO

2 have phone company test phone line for noise, if they ask tell them you hear static intermidantly, they may need to put a filter on it, also the age of your phone line could be a hinderance and might be able to get replaced

3 cordless phone on same line, remove and test speed, even if filters installed in jacks

4 run the DSL connection check/test on this site and it will tell you some tweaks that might help your connection

other than that, without being there can't think of anything else...

just some thoughts

And if you haven't power-cycled your DSL modem - sometimes that helps a bit too.
