Object Desktop w a little Hotbar thrown in

Hey, y'all! I've been lurking for a while just getting familiar with how everything works here, so I haven't been posting. But now I have a question. I am wondering if all of you who design skins for Windows are using Object Desktop or only some components of it, like WindowBlinds, etc.? Also, is it difficult to learn to create Windows skins, especially for a bumbling illiterate like myself? I am an artist and would love to jump in and use some of my ideas for designing Windows skins, but am afraid of encountering a process that is so intricate, that there is no hope for me. I don't have to be a programmer do I? I need to know this because I really would like to purchase the Object Desktop, but don't want to blow $50 on a software program that I can't use. Also, what is your opinion about Hotbar versus WebBlinds? I am using Hotbar now, but am unhappy with the hokey art and icons that it has installed on my Outlook Express. Thanks for you help.

Hotbar is loaded with spyware, WebBlinds is not.

Object Desktop is loaded with stuff I use constantly. Additionally, it gives you access to alpha applications like the WB3.9.

*bump*

Hey I can do the bump, ( strutting around office with hands stuffed under armpits, bobbing head front to back while flapping arms " can you do the funky chicken?"

seriously...

Only you would be able to decide if you felt the price paid was worth the product, thing is, you can try them first and decide what if anything you would like to purchase

Best way to figure it out is to download the shareware/public release and install. Then play around with it to see if it fits you, you might or might not find you want the whole ODNet package. But at least you will have a good idea of the software before spending money and you also do not have to totally depend on others to construct you choice. Though input does help and should be a part of it I am sure..

Anyway....

only my two seashells and one sea-flea's worth of opinion

by the way, Skin Studio (the one that you can make Window Blinds with) is only a small part of Object Desktop (which also includes Window Blinds, Object Bars, Object Edit, Icon Packager... and much, much more). If you already paid for parts of it, it may be that you only need to upgrade to it.... check it out.

Woh! I stepped away from my desk for a minute, & came back to find 5 responses! Way cool! Thanks, people. No, I really don't think I have the coordination to do the funky chicken, though it does sound like fun. I think I could either do the head thing or the arms, but not both simultaneously.

I am a real ignoramus! I didn't even know that Skin Studio is how you make your beautiful skins! Ok. Now I am getting somewhere. No, I have not paid for anything yet. I do like the idea of trying something out before I buy. Here's another dumb question: Can I try Skin Studio for free before buying it? Heavens, but this is embarrassing baring my soul this way. And as dumb as I feel about my computer (which I absolutely love and would die without), my 19 year-old son knows even less! My fourth child; how did that happen? All 3 of the others are wizzes, like their dad. It's in the genes. I guess the poor kid got my genes, eh? He doesn't even know if he has a soundcard in his pc, which admittedly is a gift, and maybe he doesn't have documentation with it. But he wants me to figure out how to get the sound to work for his video games. Funny, huh?

Thanks ever so much for the advice about hotbars too. I will go to that link and see if there is spyware on my pc. Hopefully, I will be able to remove it without a problem. I thought Hotbars was awfully pushy when it installed itself. Didn't even ask for my permission. Though I could have closed it. I was curious. You know what they say about that.

Ok, I am off in pursuit of spyware stuff. Thanks for your help. Just maybe I really can do this stuff!

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ I think the first link might not work. Spyware can interfere with your computer's performance.

This(https://www.stardock.com/) is the link to Stardock... the company that makes all this software. You can read about all the programs there.

Thanks, Goodmorphing. I got the Ad-Aware with the first link and installed it. Hotbars is gone now, along with a couple of other minor characters. Back to the drawing board. Thanks for the link to Stardock. Have a great day!
