Omar Sharif, best known for the characters he portrayed in "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Dr. Zhivago", and even played opposite Streisand in "Funny Girl" has died at age 83.

He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease earlier this year, but the immediate cause of death was a heart attack he sustained while in his native Cairo.

Thanks for the great acting...and rest in peace, Omar Sharif.

<3    83 years ... when I told my mom, she said she thought he was gone already.  I said, well people probably think you're gone too...and you're 88!

So many great movies !!

First saw him in 'More Than A Miracle' with Sophia Loren, when I was about 14yrs old... been the fave ever since... and 'Lawrence of Arabia' my fave film of all time... 'Mayerling' a beautiful movie too...and 'The Taramind Seed'...

If there's a Casino in the Afterlife... he'll be up there with O'Toole blowing a fortune and having a ball... what a life...

A heart attack was certainly good news compared to fading further away with Alzheimers... a more dignified, fitting exit...

The Eternal Male: Omar Sharif: My own story..... is a great read...

RIP  Omar   <3
