War?

War?

Ok. I hope this doesn't become a "lets blow them up" or a "give peace a chance" thread but I was wondering something stratigic (spell?)

What if the US attacks Iraq and since Iran is also part of the "axil of evil", maybe it too will feel threatened and attack the US troops as well. I actually think they will attack them and that is what Hussien means by "many body bags".

Does anyone think the US has thought of this?

One small note about health care..When it supplied no charge it gets overwhelmed by people with all kinds of imagined ills. Most folks will ignore the sniffles if they have to pay a Dr. to give them an aspirin. I don’t know what the solution is but I do know that no one goes without some kind of help when they need it. Yes the wealthy get the finest care but isn’t that what free enterprise is all about? Churchill said “the problem with socialism is everyone gets to be equally miserable”.

When I was in junior high school I knew what was wrong with communism, but from what I read about it and what was suppossed to happen under its, I felt like it was a good idea. It had some major flaws apparently like trusting people in power and lack of any major freedoms and rights.

I have to agree with Churchhill about socialism, but I am not sure if that means "finer care" for wealthier people is the problem. The problem seems to be that the regular people can't seem to get the proper care.

If I was rich I might have a specail hospital with a top doctors and roses at my 2 room single occupancy suite. That is fine. A poor person does not need a specail hospital with all the amenities. Just good care. Maybe not the top doctors but good doctors. Maybe not rooms with a view and roses but a room shared with 4 other patients and one window. In the end, will thy get the care they need and the answer should moslty realisticly be yes they recieved good care. What they could not afford, there are other good options.

Slowtyper: I don't know how you guys are in the States, but in Canada where the whole health system is free, the doctors keep saying that people don't go see the doctor when they should, and when they do sometimes it's too late. Although it's free, most people rather avoid seeing the doctor. Sure, there are some hypochondriacs, but for those people having to pay or not isn't the issue.
And no, free enterprise is not about the poor dying and the rich surviving. That is barbarism. The hobo on the street who doesn't even have an address has the right to the same quality of care than Bill Gates.

I'm not sure Pax but I heard (you know what that's worth) that people don't go to the Dr's in Canada because it takes so long to get hospital care and the clinics/Dr's offices are overcrowded. Most come to the states if they can afford it. As far as the Hobo is concerned, most, not all of course, are in the streets by their own choosing. Our system, although flawed is still the best on earth. Why else would so many people be trying so hard to get to the United States?

In response to a much earlier post by joetheblow:

The problem with communism is simple: People.

the problem with democracy is the same. Or socialism. Or an 'enlightened dictatorship'. Or... you get the idea. ^_^

It's an over-simplified answer to things - but, it's true.

Slowtyper, our system isn't perfect. I won't deny the overcrowding. The reason is multiple:
- People go to the hospital instead of their local clinic. Hospitals should be for emergencies, some people don't get that. Waiting time at the clinic is as an average about one hour (if your case is NOT an emergency, it can be 5 or 6 hours at the hospital emergency room if you're stupid enough to go there). Which isn't too bad. Note that we also have phone clinic where nurses can give you advice by phone if you're not sure if you should be seeing a doctor or not.
- Our doctor ears about half of what your doctors earn. So we suffer from a lack of doctors, since a lot move to the USA to get rich. Another reason for the lack of physicians is that most doctors want to specialise nowadays, so although we don't lack of specialists, we do not have enough general practicians.
- For a reason I don't understand the governement gives a quota to doctors. After they reach a certain limit in income, they are not going to be payed more, no matter how many more patients they see after that. So, as a result, doctors now refuse to see more patients. This quota thing is stupid, I'll give you that.

Other than that, OUR health system is considered the best in the World. Even your previous administration (Clinton) took it as an examplary. People from all over the World also try to immigrate in Canada. And more and more Americans now buy they medication from Canada, where it is much cheaper (because of governement regulations).

About the hobo: you didn't get my point. I took the hobo as an example of the poor. No matter how poor you are (whether it's of your own choosing or not) you deserve the same quality of care than any rich man. Mind you, I'n not talking about luxury care here, such as plastic surgery and stuff, but normal health care.

Weaksid need not fear. Topic's shifted to the US's oh so miserable healthcare system and Canada's oh so superior one.

Speaking of idiocy, over here in craeland they can be stupid as well. Fixed limit of medicine students and a shortage of doctors. 1 + 1 = 2. Doh!

And by the way, the thought of "oh, I bumped my toe, but I live in Canada where healthcare if free so let's go bug the hospital" is idiocy too. People may be dumb, but they're not that dumb. And if they are, they'd go to the hospital, get yelled at and sod off home again, never pulling that stunt again.

werewolf - my comment was definitely not directed at your post, and i'm sorry if i ruffled any feathers. my comment was mainly aimed at an assertion that i thought was flowing thru the thread: that having no health insurance = not seeing a doctor if you're sick in stone-hearted America. The emergency room at the county hospital near me is filled with poor people every evening. they get seen, and get the same care i would although they often have a sizeable wait. They often get their meds free as "samples", while i go to the drugstore and pay because i have the money to do so. people with an immediate problem in my neck of the woods usually get to see a doctor when necessary, and pay, either with money if they have it, or with the inconvenience of waiting if they have no money to pay. for preventive care such as prenatal checks, people with no insurance do indeed have a problem.

Me again PAX, I spent some quality time in the P. of Quebec many years ago, the people all over Canada treated us wonderfully, great Country as far as I'm concerned. I know a lot of US types are buying there medicine from Canidian firms, people that smoke are also trying to beat the stupid Taxes and mark ups involved in that. I understood your meaning on the hobo and anyone who gets sick here gets medical help, may not be premium but there is only so many Drs. to go around.
