Google search

Im brand spankin new to skinning and modifying, I can't skin at all, and am relying on the kindness of you guys to make my computer badass! Anyway, I saw a screenshot on a different site, and the guy had a google search thingie on his wallpaper.. how the hell do you do that? My guess was that he wrote out the HTML and then set it as a web item, but I'm curious to know if there is in fact another (better) way to do it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

yes, most probably HTML. you can also do this with LiteStep´s lsxcommand module (but that´s more complicated for newbies).

i don´t think any Stardock software can do this and as this site is pretty much a "Stardock ghetto" you will probably not get much answers here. for HTML on the desktop related questions i suggest to ask at Custo http://www.customize.org

He may have done that with the old active desktop stuff in Windows.

You can do that with DesktopX. For instance, on my desktop I've got a bunch of text-based DesktopX objects and edit box in which I can specify a search string and check off what kind of search to perform (google web search, google groups search, google image search, google current events/news search)

DesktopX doesn't give you that out of the box, you have to set up some objects and a few lines of DXscripting to do it but its pretty trivial.

Either that, or there are other applications that allow you to have web pages as your desktop. Desktop X is one, and I think Talisman too (not featured here) and aybe even NextStart (but I'm not sure about thay last one).
