Custom Desktop / Fences occasionally disappears

Product Name: HP Pavilion DV7-4270US
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Last year, I began experiencing a situation about once a month where my laptop boots without my customized desktop.

Instead of displaying Fences and all of my icons, it boots with the basic Windows logo desktop and maybe a dozen icons.

Nothing is missing from the drive, it is just a display issue.

Reverting to an earlier restore point will fix it but I have had to occasionally try more than one point.

Oddly enough, even if I get the occasional error that the restore did not complete successfully, it still restores my desktop.

Malwarebytes, Avast AV, SpyBot have been run multiple times and find nothing.

I considered that my nearly full hard drive might not have enough free space and upgraded from a 640gb to 1tb, but it continues to happen. I notice it less now, since I've been hibernating at night instead of shutting down.

Truthfully, I had forgotten about the right click(?) to try to restore Fences.

I believe I'm still using the version of Fences that came on my four year old laptop.

Suggestions?

Was hoping for help by now.

Running Fences Pro v 1.0.1.312.19219

Willing to purchase the current version if I had some idea it would correct the issue.

From that description I'd be thinking Windows Updates are causing the issue for some reason.

Either way, Version '1' is a little ancient.

I'll point support at this thread and see if anyone can assist further...;)

Fences 1 is no longer supported, though other users here may be able to assist you better in the support thread.

I get something similiar also but mine is entire desktop is wiped out. I will note that this happened after a Windows update.

I'm using a 30 day trial version but now I'm leary of purchasing if this will be a constant issue.

FIX IT FELIX!!

Which version of Fences.

Wiped out as in, all of your desktop shortcuts are deleted? Or wiped out as in, auto-hide is turned on(In the Fences config) and they are just hiding right now?

If you want to check for sure, go to My Computer-Desktop to view your shortcuts.

Thanks The gear.

I had the blank desktop also which came about after a Windows update. Turns out the update seems to turn on the Desktop Quick Hide button in Fences (I could be wrong) Check your Fences configuration to turn this off and your Fences should show after reboot.

Works flawless for my system

As usual it was user error.......my error X(

RTFD :annoyed:

The Hide/View option doesn't address my issue. It's not just a matter of the icons disappearing.

In my case, the desktop reverts to the original Windows logo instead of my custom image, displaying perhaps a dozen of my 77 icons.

I posted this in the Microsoft forums, but their only suggestion was that it could be related to Fences.
