The Flu

You know, before I had kids, I never got sick. I had perfect attendance (other than chicken pox) in K through 12. But now with kids, blech. I'm not sure I ever even had the flu before having kids.

Anyone else out there suffering from the same thing? Seems like everyone I know is getting the flu. Thankfully, I have just the good old fashioned flu and intestinal or whatever but it is definitely a downer.

After they grow up and leave home you think your cured. Well think again. They have children, your grandchildren and it starts all over again.

To prevent the flu I recommend flu shots. They work every year for me.

Preventing kids is easier. (but not as much fun)

Ewww - just now noticed this thread. Yeah - I just got over a really bad stomach flu myself. It's /still/ got me beat, but at least I'm finally feeling better and able to get some stuff done.

My little girl only had checkups before kindergarden. Not a single cold previous. Her kindergarden year she missed 23 days of school and went to the doctor a dozen times. She was constantly sick. This year has been beter, but no less sickness, just not to a debilitating degree. Everything she has, we get.

The problem, i think, is society. Parents have structured care for their children, and a sick day throws a wrench in it. Instead, then, of having to find a sitter or missing work, they send them to school to snot on their classmates. When i go to eat lunch with my daughter (now 1st grade) almost everyone in her glass is wheezing and expectorating like little germ bazookas. They drink and eat after each other, and they never seem to be urged to wash their hands. It's 'Lord of the Flies' meets 'The Hot Zone'.

I'm hoping by 3rd grade they will have built up some resistance...

Way back when Frogboy my daughter came home from school one day with chicken pox. Within a week she was back to her usual self. Old Crab never had the c.pox as a child so quess what? Right! Came down with c.pox at the tender age of 32. Talk about misery! I was out of it for almost 3 weeks. The flu is childs play to c.pox. Any who, GET WELL SOON!

I'm pretty good with my resistance to the flu. I usually get it mildly and then transmit it myself to my wife and my kids, who in turn get it big time. I end up being the only functionnal person in the house. I have never missed a single day of work due to the flu. I meen for real, cause I have on occasion called in sick although I just didn't want to come to work.

Brad: I can sympathize My youngest came home with it early last week (we've been having an epidemic in the schools around here and 1/2 of the school have had to close...yikes) Anyway, being a hands on dad, I got it from him and have probably passed it on to the wife and the 2 other kids. It's no fun at all.

btw Your story about your wonder wife and her broken leg was hysterical
