"Fences does not appear to be loaded"/"You may need to reinstall Fences"

I recently installed an update to Fences - from 2.11 to 2.13 - rebooted and now it refuses to work at all.

1/. I installed the update, lost all my previous Fences and when I tried to  start it from the menu I got an error message that says - "Fences does not appear to be loaded"/"You may need to reinstall Fences".

2/. I reinstalled 2.13, rebooted and it made no difference, so I went back to the original 2.11 and reinstalled that - but with the same effect - that is, it doesn't work any longer.

If I try to uninstall from C:\Program Files\Stardock\Fences - I get "Invalid start code: archive filename"

Anyone else had this and solved it?

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers,

Rob

I too have just struck this problem.

I cannot start fences from the registry keys (which are stored as "/startup" in the start menu.

OK. I replied to the ticket.

I solved this by uninstalling Fences 2.13 using Revo Uninstaller to scan for leftovers and deleting them.

I then reinstalled 2.11 and it works ... phew - my whole working strategy is based around Fences!

Where can I get version 2.11? I have tried for three weeks o get 2.12 to work and it continually says it is not started. I have tried all "fixes" such as Task Scheduler etc. with all Stardock's remidies and nothing works. Complete uninstall of 2.13 and install of downloaded 2.11 froman external source did not work. I am runnng under Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

I thinbk my days of usiong Stardock software is drawing to a close.

End of szatepyakin's quote

Do you have Windows Aero running? Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of Fences from your My Downloads?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "create my screen life". Can you elaborate?

I used to run Fences withoput the Aero running, so the fact that Aero is off should not make a difference.

My Fences started stopping after my User folders were accidtally deleted by a so-called system utility used to optimise my computer.

(I have ditched that utility needless to say). I am currently trying to restore all my folders from a backup and when that is finished I hope (fingers crossed) that Fences will run again.

It is possible that there is damage to your Users folders (corruption? Folder missing?).

I have tried every "fix" suggested by the product authors (and this BBS) all to no avail so I hope this restoration of User folders will fix things.

(I gather not too many programs check that User folders actaully exist when they install. They probably assume the folders are always there and so ignore the fact they cannot save their settings to allow program execution. (TYhis is all theory of course).

If I can get version 2.11 back maybe all will work OK.
Where can I get that?

Cheers

Chris

I have finally found version 2.11 but still no luck!

Will I ever get my Fences back again?
