WindowBlinds

I have the latest version of WindowBlinds (Full Version) Yet when I open my kazaa it slows the computer down and takes forever to load up kazaa. Everything else is pretty much mine though. Can somebody tell me what's wrong and how I can fix the problem? Thanks!

Ok but the copy right laws in the USA and Canada allow fair use of a copy righted song. ie: I own the entire Pink Floyd collection and when I find the time I will rip it all so that I can use it in my mp3 player. I don't have that time so I can quickly download the songs I want and copy them to my player. That is not illegal I already paid for those songs, its fair use of a copy right. If the music companies have it their way you will pay twice for the songs once on cd and a second time to download it. as you know they are working on copy protection to prevent mp3 ripping. Now I would prefere that if push came to shuve the file sharing progies would go b4 they take our right to copy my own cd to a format that I can take with me.... in my iPaq

Fair use of copy right permits me to change the format of a song ( copy it ) and use it for personal use ( on an mp3 player like my iPaq ) as long as I have a purchased original. so why don't I rip my entire Floyd collection ... well some of its vinyl so file sharing of mp3's is legal under some circumstance. I am not naive I know ppl download music they don't own but thats not a good enough reason to damn us all... the sales of cd's are proving to be a consistant trend. They have ups and downs like any other industry.

Static...there is no problem with copying your own CDs for your own use, but hosting the files/MP3s for others to download is the problem.
Being lazy and not wanting to 'rip your own' is no justification for the on-line facility of copyright theft/evasion...

I would disagree that its lazy... its fair use.
sorry about the double post i thought the first did not go.

Strangely, I have originals of Floyd on Vinyl, Cassette, CD, Video and DVD....many of them duplicates, as I have 'most' ever released on vinyl and all of 'em on CD...

Static...it's not 'fair use' for someone to HOST the files publicly, unless they pay royalties.
You 'may' be OK downloading 'if' you have purchased your original, but the 'hosts' most definitely have not paid 'public distribution rights' and no amount of argument will validate or alter that position, sorry...

As I recall, the arguments [legal] relating to 'backup' copies of CDs being 'legitimate' referred to 'data CDs' where damage could jeopardize a business practise...system backups were deemed 'fair use'.
That did not extend naturally or logically to Music CDs as they were deemed 'non critical' and significantly less 'expensive' than, say, Photoshop.

There is a long history of argument re cross-format 'backups'...ever since audio cassettes first hit the market, where a surcharge was put on the price of a blank to help appease the companies...

I will not argue anything about hosting I don't host files myself and never will... I do download mp3's tho...

and you are pretty much right about Floyd and even now I have found some Barret solo material... ON CD!

But I can not find Nick Mason or Richard Wright's solo material on CD I have them on Vinyl.

Interesting fact....'Nordstar', a bootleg mono-[well, crappy anyway] vinyl of Dark Side actually out-sold Purple's 'Made In Japan' double in the UK...

Ripping is theft, no ifs or buts.
Duplicating a CD you paid money for to a legitimate trader and intended for your own personal and private use is not strictly legal but is a fair practice, beyond this point the law is fairly obvious.

Come on people. A person using KaZaA does NOT indicate any illegal activities. It allows transfers of all kinds of files: Image, Audio, Video, Text, etc.

I, myself, use KaZaA as it is a very good tool for archival purposes. Many of my old CDs are scratched terribly, so bad they will not play. (You should see my Hootie and the Blowfish: Fairweather Johnson CD. Gash an inch long, and if you want, I'll post a picture...) I also have numerous 8-track tapes, Cassettes, and LP Records (33s and 45s) that I want to archive. I -OWN- these albums, and I have every right under copyright law to download those songs. I can have as many copies of each album as I want "For archival and backup purposes." And yes, this is what I use it for, and so do thousands of others.

Furthermore, I appreciate music videos. KaZaA is one of the best resources for finding videos. And before you start, if it plays on TV, I have the right to download it for 'personal use'. Check your copyright laws, it's legal. It's even legal to copy DVDs and VHS tapes... "For home and personal use only. Distribution, sale, and rental is prohibited."

Third, I make FanVideos. These are freely distributable. Movie + Song -> Themed Video. Share them all you want... [ http://www.animemusicvideos.org/ -> Japanese Animation Based ]

So don't accuse people of using KaZaA for illegal purposes. It's a legal tool, that many people abuse.

And if the spyware bothers you that much... Disable CyDoor. Not really that hard. Ad-Aware -> PhaseShift. Done...

rkumono...if your bought copy of a song is scratched or damaged, well, tough titties, lad, it means you are obliged to buy another one. It DOES NOT allow you to take someone else's instead.
That's the same as saying, "my nice new car is all scratched and has run out of petrol...never mind, I am now entitled to take another one from the lot."

Actually, you do NOT 'own' the albums, just the right to that particular copy [pressing] and to privately play/listen to it.
When it no longer plays, that's it. Law requires you to buy another to replace it, as with any other goods and chattels.

Simply because the law is not enforced relating to personal copying does NOT de-criminalize MP3 'sharing' via Kazaa or Napster.

Napster was pulled because of its illegality in use, don't imagine that Kazaa is somehow immune.

It IS copyright theft.

Oh...and re the TV and video bit.....you have the right to record the TV telecast, but no-one other than the TV station has the right to distribute copies of the telecast.

That, too, is copyright theft.

It only slows down when i open kazaa. for anything else, my computer runs fine and quickly, but kazaa slows it down big time. i can't even use it with windowblinds, i have to switch back to just the plain xp theme or use real player.

I have no real opinion on file sharing, so I'll actually try to HELP Led, which is what he posted on this board for (as opposed to starting up a debate about file sharing).

Try setting a per app exclusion in WindowBlinds.

1. Double click WB in the tray
2. Click "Per Application" on the menu on the left of the window
3. Click "Add per application setting"
4. Click "Select from disk..."
5. Point it to the location of the Kazaa program file (.exe)
6. Click Ok

All done

Of course, the problem could be with the skin you're using, not WB (or Kazaa) itself. Try using a different skin, and if you still have problems, set WB to exclude skinning Kazaa.
