Hehe, Jafo's Gonna be P*ssed

fox US is gonna bastardise one of his fave TV shows

http://www.tvrage.com/news/11187/fox-is-planning-a-luther-remake

Yup, I just read that Fox USA is going to remake 'Luther', a British crime series starring Idris Elba.

I can just imagine the shenanigans now... how he'll protest vehemently that it pales in comparison to the original... and the language.

In fact, I may be inclined to agree with him.  While Elba will co-produce the series, he's going to be a hard act to follow in that role.

So I can hear it now.  He'll watch one episode so's he can come back and say: "Those damned Yanks, they've gone and f*cked up another great British TV series with a poor remake that doesn't do the name Luther justice, much less the series.  Whoever thought of it oughta be hung, drawn and quartered then shot and sent to the electric chair."

It is quite likely that I will agree with him, given how many other British shows tried crossing the Atlantic and failed dismally to recreate the feel of the original series... for example, 'Life on Mars'.  The British version was superior without question.

Anyway, I guess we shall see what we shall see.... and whether Jafo even gets through the first episode or not.  I know that if it is below par I shan't bother beyond the 1st installment.

 ;P :-"

I doubt I'd watch even the first.

It's a no-brainer it'd be inferior without Elba playing the lead.

What, no coarse language?  No derogatory remarks?

You're slipping, me old mate, you're slipping.  I let a few expletives go when I read the article....

Let's just say that it was the X-rated and somewhat extended version of: "What the stuff n' nonsense is this?"

Yes, Idris is part of the production, but I agree, someone else playing the lead is as near to sacrilege and blasphemy as you can get.

Thing is, I'm going to have to watch some of the 1st episodes so's I can come back and say: "Told you so!" to all and sundry.

:w00t: :-" O:)

Oh, and for those who think I'm taking a pot shot at US TV... what's the point of working in the kitchen if yer can't stir the pot once in a while?

;P   }:)

The reality is that US Teev does its own stuff well....just as UK Teev does its. [And Oz, likewise].

Crossovers/copies/whatever NEVER work....never have...never will.

Imagine what Sons would be if done in Europe.....all running around on Vespas dealing with black market croissants.....;p

Hehe, and Jax with a French accent. ... and Bobby in Italian.... Gemma in Spanish.

Yeah, I can see that doing well... as a comedy.

However, I could see a 'Sons' type production working well here in Oz, given we have a biker culture of our own to base it on.

Oh, and another crossover flop was one of our very own, Wilfred

Oh, wait a minute, that was a flop before it crossed over.

Gotta offload our unwanted TV crap somewhere, I guess. ;P

Then there was Kath and Kim wot tried crossing over... would have been as funny to US viewers as a nosebleed in a scuba mask.

Come to think of it, I thought it was as funny as a massive toothach in a retaurant :O
