Question about the AI

I've been thinking about modding factories or adding another option for robotic factories that can be built on terraformable tiles once the game is released to get an option that the community doesn't seem to want.  As I was thinking about how to to add that functionality I realized a human player using the mod would easily see the how and where to use those options but what about the AI?  Will the AI use modded buildings that function differently than the original?  Will there be tags on buildings that help the AI use modded buildings?

 

There has been talk about how GC3 will support modding and allow for a lot of creativity in modding but I haven't heard or seen anything about how that is implemented beyond modifying the XML.  Will the AI use modded buildings the same as if they were unmodified?  Will modders have a way to modify how the AI uses those changes?

 

I realize that including multiplayer allows for more opportunities to use those mods against players who will use them well but I prefer playing on the largest maps and taking a week or more to finish a game, having to get the same people together to play for games like that would turn these types of games into month or more long affairs so sometimes I will still want to play against the AI to play through continuously rather than when I can get everyone together for the shared game.

I've played borderlands it has a different idea for a mod than here. Borderlands has a different kind of mod. They mod a gun. In galactic civilizations it would be like modding weapons or buildings. Modded tech trees buildings weapons  abilities and penalties. Some kind of mechanic should be in place to keep this from being too cheesy or maybe this should be a seperate game. The an being able to mod would be rad.

I think the AI would not use it unless it was programmed to use x item at y time. The video stream said AI will choose buildings to maximize bonuses, but only so far. I dont think the AI see's stuff like a human would ie read the bonuses. Rather it already knows what building is going here or there. Any new buildings it would ignore as it hasnt been told to put it here or there.

Yeah, I expected that.  It would take a lot of programming time to implement an AI that would use modded buildings correctly.
