are you looking for a graphics editor or for a free way to skin your windows?

best free graphics editor (also better than nearly all commercial software) is The GIMP.
main site: http://www.gimp.org
installer for Windows: http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/

a nice little program is also Pixia: http://www.ab.wakwak.com/~knight/

if you want a free way to skin your windows, you need WindowsXP. the uxtheme path is free and allows you to apply non-signed visual styles.

We don't accept copyrighted images, so make sure that your images are your own.

You can make Wallpapers and graphics is PSP, and you can use SkinStudio to make graphics into Skins, if that is what you want to do.

yea this is what i maent,
and of course i won't steal i take a picture and i add stuff to it, then you can;t call it someone else, then it is called a fan art or wallpaper.

Sorry, Clooneyslave. Manipulating someone else's picture or graphics and uploading it is still considered stealing. You are welcome to make "fan art" for your own use, but you cannot upload it without permission from the owner of the original photo.

Just to clarify something......... SkinStudio isn't "THE" tool for making all skins.....you can't make a Sysmetrix skin with it for example. Don't want to confuse the newbies, do we.

I looked all over and there was never more than a few dollars difference in the prices quoted...
It's six hundred bucks no matter where ya go.

Unless I'm mistaken you could use Paint Shop Pro for making the skin graphics and that can range anywhere from 50 to 100 bucks...

-Zero Cool- -: you really shouldn't be saying that. That sort of thing is really frowned on here.

I love PSP...tried Photoshop 6 and didn't take to it like PSP 6 and 7.0.

If you bought the "physical" CD from Jasc rather than the "download purchase" then you should have a nice *BIG* user guide that came with it and it will really teach you some great stuff! I still study it off and on to refresh myself on techniques that I don't use quite as often.

Werewolf is right, this is not the place to endorse/advertize warez.

Oops...somebody needs a hug!

The cheapest I've seen Photo Shop 7 was $550 from tiger a few months ago.

And that's USD ...... try double that amount in AUSD!
As many people must have the newest program all the time a large number of genuine copies of Photoshop 6 are appearing for sale, complete with registration and all the legal requirements.
But ... IMHO you'd be better off with Paint Shop Pro, if you are a newbie.
My 2C worth.

MikeB314- the pictures are pictures that had been posted on the net by the pearson or magazine who toke them, meaning they give full premision to use those pictures, i don't sale the fan art's i make them for the happines of the people who are a fan like i am, many do it i haven't heard any one being sued for it, have you?

wombat_1(and the rest of you who need talked about the grapics editors)- i got PSP7 a few montes ago, any way i got it for 400 shekels(i live in israel) it was on a special sale for the jewish new year,(i also got a studant discount) but it costs around 700 shekels here and if i remember right the software in doallrs when i check three montes ago was on around 100/150$ i can't see how it jumped to 500$ have you checked the company site?
but then again i got the anniversary Pack which had PSP7 AS 3, Media center Plus and lots of other stuff, and it came with that CD someone talked about.

you should check the company site they usualy have prices for each country i'm pretty sure they had one for Australia

www.jasc.com
i got this huge book that talls you how to do cool stuff on PSP and on AS.

just my 2 cents, sorry if i made any one mad, just giving some facts.

Posting something on the net is not the same thing as giving permission to redistribute. What you do with the images for your own personal use is your business, but they should never leave your harddrive, without written permission.

You're confusing Photoshop with Paintshop Pro. It is Photoshop that is so expensive.

Clooneyslave....the chances are that if you find an image on the Net that it is ALREADY unlawfully being displayed. Many sites are either ignorant of, or uncaring about copyright theft.
IF you do find an image legally displayed it is nearly always for private use of the downloader, and NOT for public redistribution in any shape or form without SPECIFIC consent being granted.
Most 'Fan Art' is derived from images which are used without permission, and most, but not all go legally unchallenged. That does NOT make them legitimate, simply because they have not been challenged [yet].

Many sites, particularly high-profile public ones, tend to have a 'better' control of what is displayed or not, as they recognize and respect Artists' Copyright...

Jafo- the pictures are from high known sites such as magazines sites yahoo and others that post those pictures with an artical sometimes it is part of a picture album to that star.

if a site such as yahoo and other big once wanted that all the viewrs will not be able to use the pictures they could have just use the no right click button code, very simple the fact that they are putting it on the net without the no right click button says that they are giving full premission to their viewrs to save the pictures into their computer and do with it as they pleased as long as it is truely not illegal. like if it is hurts a pearson.

just so you know just about everything on this site can be illegal too if you use a picture of barbie or something like that, if you wanna get into legal illegal battle here.

most people haven't been "caught" as you say because there is a unwrited understanding between most people on the net to the celebrity. i'm sure there is something like that other wise they won't agree to lat the magazines photo guy to take a picture of them.

as simple as that.

and if i'm wrong then i'm wrong nothing bad in being wrong.
but untill a group of celebrity will come up and says that they ban from people to use the pictures to make fan arts i will still stand strong on my believe about the unwritten premission.

Redistribution of any intellectual property (copyrighted material) without the approved consent and/or license of the copyright owner is illegal because the art, graphics, linkware, photography, music, lyrics, poetry, writing, fonts, dingbats, etc., is held "in copyright" to the owner.

One of the exclusive rights granted to the copyright owner is the right of distributing their copyrighted material (per the Copyright Act of 1974). Redistribution denies that exclusive right to the copyright owner.

The owner of the copyright stipulates how the intellectual property can be used, i.e. Terms of Use.

The unauthorized use of intellectual property outside of the creator's Terms of Use constitutes an illegal act of copyright infringement.

People may do it everyday, but it's wrong, and illegal.
There is no such thing as unwritten permission concerning Copyright.
