Hard drive Icons broken :(

I used Iconpackager to change the default icon for my hard drives on my XP pro box. Unfortunately, instead of showing the new icons in my computer, etc, it shows them for a split second, and then the icons change to the standard windows default document icon. I've tried using iconpackager, e-icons, activicons, and iconworkshop to try to fix it, but no luck. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Are you running the trial version?

yeah it's the trial version.

At this point i'd be more than happy just to have the windows default icons for the drives back, but no go

Use Microsoft's TweakUI for XP (Powertoys), it has a repair icons feature that will fix you up.
It's a free download, just run a search for it with Google, you can find it all over.

I tried tweek ui, but it didn't do the trick either. I also thought the problem might be errant autorun.inf files on the drives, so i deleted the autrun.infs, but that didn't help either.

Well, I own Microangelo's 'On Display' which would most certainly fix the problem, however, it isn't a free program, so is not a help to you.
Surely someone here knows how to fix this problem in the registry.
It's been a long time since I did something like that and I don't want to give you wrong info...

If you don't intend on purchasing Iconpackager, I would suggest backing up your registry, and then going into it and search for and delete all references to iconpackager that you find. That might fix it...

Other people have fixed this problem by re-installing Icon Packager, running the "Restore Defaults" button in the "Settings" section and *then* un-installing Icon Packager.

In regedit the search feature is called Find, and to go to the next instance, press the F3 key.
