Why do all of the textures I try to apply to my explorer backgrounds turn out so light (faded) in appearance?

It could depend on the skin you are applying them to. Can you post a screenshot?
There's a setting in wbconfig to adjust that. I'd post a pic but I'm on my smartphone at the moment.
Look in settings where you set the texture.
Guess your "smart" phone ain't so smart. 
It doesn't run windowblinds, so I guess not...lol. I wish they had windowblinds for android.
There is a setting under explorer backgrounds called "Fade Texture" and you probably have it ticked. Untick it, apply the change and your textures/backgrounds will appear as intended
