WIP "8 for 7"

by request

I have picked up on the fact that there are some people that would like a skin that mimics the windows 8 GUI for use on windows 7.

I've decided to take up the "challenge" since I'm currently not working on anything else.

Here is the first draft after a couple of hrs work:

I plan on doing 2 versions. One as shown and one darker with white fonts and titlebar glyphs. My goal is that it will recolor easily as well. I may perhaps make some discrete "artistic license" changes where necessary.

Hmm. Been trying to use DB for pictures instead of imageshack because imageshack isn't free anymore. Let me see if I can get the preview up.

Def. not your style, Andy (nor mine for that matter), but it is important for me to stay as true to the subject as possible without too many "embellishments"

-Funny thing though....In my mind A request to make windows 8 look like Windows 7 would be a more.... sane request, no ? LOL

Thank you.  You do excellent work and I am looking forward to your blinds.   I am currently using your Ubuntu 11 skin with a little bit of modifiucation to match my personal preferences.  The Ubuntu Tanergince icon package from doogee on Deviantart compliments the colors perfectly.  Very easy on the eyes for everyday use.  I am very anxious to see what you come up with here.   I can't see your screen shot right now, but will check it out when I am home and it's not blocked.

Thanks again   5*

We can already do that. Been doing that with some of your skins.

Well, actually, your skins make 8 look like some cool alien setup.

Could be. Start 8 doesn't exactly match the colors for the SP and taskbar to the windowframes for some reason. I felt for the sake of continuity, I should match the frames exactly. That is also why I did the shutdown button red (matches the close button) and the right side item dark blue (matches the min/max/tile mouseover)

yes that looks great =)
I picked colors from the windows8 startmenu first to get that crazy color combo going but trashed it again since it was looking more like winThreshold SM and also went with similar colors in the end.

what i missed is that the windows taskbar is transparent on windows 8.
But i think that can be adjusted in windowblinds later.

Explorer window comparison:

Top image is Windows 7 with the blind (so far) applied. Bottom image is a actual screenshot of the same section on Windows 8.

Looking very nice Tim.

May I also say that's it's nice to see that you are keeping your hand in doing some skinning.  :sun:

Finally getting some more done on this:

On the left, Native Windows 8. On the right, WB version on Windows 7.

I can see that I need to make the titlebar font a bit larger and the buttons need to pop down a pixel.

Lol, it looks like it's supposed to haha. You know what my thoughts are on the design, but GREAT WORK !! 5* 5*

Reproducing a design is a lot harder than one would think. Blame MS for the look, my job is to make it as accurate as possible.

Thanks, Andy :)

I have the light substyle finished! It also includes a seperate style for thin taskbar users. Anyone wanting to test it out can get the beta version by PMing me here.
