/me needs a guru.....

As some of you may know, since I got my broadband connection I have been having trouble with my uploads to this site getting corrupted in the transfer from my computer to the Wincustomize server. Now, the strange thing is, I can send files by e-mail, or by messenger, and everything is fine. I need to talk to someone who knows broadband inside out to try and cure this as it's really becoming annoying.

Is there a website or forum where these guys hang out? Does anyone know a broadband expert who could help me? Are any of you experts in this field?

My ISP (NTLworld) have been no help at all, they said it was my fault for trying to upload big files!!! (I don't consider 128k to be a big file, do you?) and they said it's not a fault at their end, so they are not interested. I need to know if there are some settings I can adjust in my Network connection (bearing in mind that I have tried many things already with the assistance of T-Man, who has been a great help) or if its something to do with my network card or my digital set top box modem, or anything really!

I really need some help with this, pleeeeeeeze. So if any of you guys have any ideas, I will try anything!
Thank you............Bryan (BoXXi).

EEEEK! My connection is a full 20% faster without it... You can re-install. From memory (I'm at work, W98 only..), go back to the same place then install> service and QOS should be on the list.

This is most strange. Your connection should not be using or need QOS. We have a fully qualified network engineer coming in today to do some work, I will tap him for info (my qualification is NT/Exchange) see if he can shed some light.

Boxxi, please don't take me wrong, but personally at this point I would make a complete backup, strip that sucker down to the bare roots, and rebuild from scratch. Sometimes, it is the only logical choice after all other avenues have been thoroughly explored.

Thank you Fuzzy Logic for the tip with the "QOS Packet Scheduling".
My connection is much faster now!

I am sorry about your problem BoXXi, but did you have try my advice? It is very clean and simple and you will get much answers for your problem, if not solved.

If you never changed the default system restore settings you should be able to go back upto about a week... maybe that before all this started with the cable internet... you could start over like you never installed it in the first place.

Panic over... I did a system restore.

I came across something interesting while I was at dslreports.com, At the top of the page it said."Proxy detected" and next to it was a link to explain what it meant. This is what it said.......
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We detect you are using a PROXY server to access the web! This means all your web requests are diverted through an ISP or company supplied gateway (yours is at 62.252.224.6), which does the job of fetching the page, then providing it to you.

This proxy server maybe a setting in your browser you can change, or may be transparent (invisible to you) and unavoidable.

Some proxy servers can be unreliable especially with dynamic content. Proxy servers may also cache content for faster access.. or may log the sites you visit. On a mainland broadband connection (other than satellite), the web is usually faster, more private, and more reliable, if you are not directed through a proxy or caching server.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I checked my settings, the proxy server box was unchecked. Does this mean it's a transparent one? If I bypass the proxy server is this likely to improve or worsen my situation?

Patrick: which new upload do you mean? Are you looking at "The Question"? If so, that one was posted for me by T-Man, like all my recent stuff. I mail them to him and he posts them directly onto the site for me.
I am about to do another test upload after making a few more changes.......here we go again......

no,Carbon Fibre 2.It's on the browser with no obvious corruption lines.I did not download it just pre-viewed it thru WC Browser.

Hmm. Would a transparent proxy affect uploads via ftp (not via IE)? If not then that does seem to be the problem. I have worked on this issue with Bryan for a while one evening and he could upload any size file to my PC via ftp without any problems. However I am also in the same country so it may be that some sort of link across the pond could also be the problem.

O.K. Guys.... I officially give up! I'm tired of the whole damn thing. One last thing I need to know... Can I use my dial up modem alongside this broadband? It's all I can do now, just go back to uploading with the modem if it's possible.

Thank you so much for all your help and input on this, but I think "BoXXi's Law" has won this one (BoXXi's Law: Whatever can go wrong......Will!)

If I can get the modem back up, I can start uploading the ton of stuff I have waiting. Any help in that area would be appreciated.
Thank you again, you have all been great!

Bryan:I get 386 up and would be happy to upload anything anytime,,I can move files around like duff feathers.I would still like to try and get your ISP more involved with a good Technician dropping by for a look see. This will be worked out.

Bryan...I have ADSL....digital shared line...one copper pair delivering broadband and standard phone line at the same time...and have sucessfully conected both the ADSL modem and the 56k dialup at the same time.
The only requirement is you would probably have to kill the ADSL ink while you upload...so the dialup does it for you and not your buggy broadband.

I have 2 providers...so if one flops, I use the other....[only way to go... ]

Means I have to legit emails.... [email protected] and [email protected]

Ah...duality is The Go...

the way I see it, go for it... edit the registry... I remember the first time I did some thing on my computer and I didn't know what I was doing... I think I ran fdisk on a hard drive that was full or something like that... but I broke my computer many times before I finally learned all I know... remember nothing ventured nothing gained...write that down... he he he...

Just a note about "sfc /scannow" Make sure that there is a space between the c and the \ or it won't work.

BOXXI!!!

I was checking out the screenshot of you, and noticed the mouse pointer...
Is it only me or are you using my 'blacklight' cursor?

And if the answere is yes, do you like it???

btw: meaby it has something too with the donwload limit, if you down/up load too much they will block it... Are you connecting trough a gateway or something or do you have a firewall running?
I'm not sure what port wincustomize is using, but it could be that that port is closed... just some wild gues.

Thanks Styl..... Yes that was your cursor. It's very cool. My upload problem is fixed now, (it was the transparent proxy server. bypassed it and everything is fine). But thanks for the suggestions.
