you got it bad...

What's with all the totally and utterly UNUSUABLE skins. The last one that particularly impressed me was boxxi's with the tubular title bars... I mean... what the HELL is that... hats off to the master with all the work over the transparencies, but let's be honest. there's no way in HELL anyone could work [or survive, as a matter of fact] with that skin on his computer.

it looks cool and everything, but it ain't worth dick if you need a nice simplistic skin just so your comp isn't boring, but you still want to USE IT.

I am yet to see a skin that looks better than Blackcomb and still has the USABILTY factor which should be, IMHO, the most important one.

and to end my little flame, I'd like to quote a friend who uttered [after seeing a few screenshots]: "They all got it bad for 'art' or SOMETHING, but somewhere along the way they seem to have forgotten all about usabilty."

peace out,
AlliX

P.S: NHF to all the great artists, nothing but love for ya all, but show me something I can work with... a close button in the lower-left corner and a mouseover action that moves it to the lower-right corner is NOT what I had in mind.

Guess you will have to make your own, so you will get it the way you want it. One out of 2011 skins? Oh well.

Obviously we need to skin Windows as a Dos Command-line interface, just to keep the function-freaks happy....

Skinning is done for enjoyment, which is often an aesthetic thing.
Functionality isn't always a priority, so if it's yours then perhaps you could make a 'purely functional skin' and please yourself...

IMO, Essorant creates the best usuable skins:

I particularly love Phase Change:

To each their own, if you don't like it, don't use it, look for something you do like, period.

Why don't you honestly browse through the over 2000 skins available for windowblinds on this site. I am sure that you will find many skins to suit your taste. I can't believe that you looked at them all and couldn't find at least a dozen that fit your liking.

I should've suggested that - it's the one I've been using for the past week!

AlliX: Please try to remember that skinners skin for themselves first and foremost. Out of their generosity they share their creations with the world. Your tastes may well be different to other peoples. If you can't get on with a skin just find another one. As has been mentioned there are a heck of a lot of them around.

hey! if you don't like my stuff, don't buy it! Oh, wait a minute, it's free! Well what can I say?.............
I try to bring a little aesthetic pleasure to your dull life (for free) and all you can do is complain. SO DON'T USE IT! I'll live.

I am new to skinning WindowBlinds, I am trying to make attractive stuff within the boundaries of the program, (which ain't easy). I have only uploaded 4 skins so far (I think).

I have another 10 skins waiting to be uploaded, and if you didn't like THAT one, then these are REALLY gonna piss you off!
Maybe I will just put them all on a CD and sell them instead. Might as well get paid for peddling my crap!

/me goes back to making a circular skin for WindowBlinds......(that oughtta ring his bell, the ingrate.)

/me ponders the irony of someone named BoXXi making a circular WindowBlinds skin.

side issue Jafo - just because you can handle DOS and UNIX cmd lines with virtuosity and do worthwhile things without a mouse doesn't mean that you're a "function freak". it often means only that you're a wage earner who is getting paid regularly.

BKB...I don't...but I've watched my brother-in-law getting around quite proficiently in 2K server without a GUI....but then he handles systems for a major bank, etc...

There IS a way of running your system from a Command-line 'GUI'...via LiteSTEP and some carefully 'worded' LSXCommands.....with a 'Dos-like' WB skin as well, you could really 'pretend' to have XP running in Dos....just for a giggle...
