It snowed today.

Today we had our first major snowfall. When I woke this morning everything was white and pristine. There is something about a new snowfall that makes the world, for a brief moment anyway, a clean and perfect place.

I spent the first hour of my day shoveling the walk and driveway. Then a 2 hour indulgence of my favorite winter activity, cross-country skiing. Chopped up 20 good size pieces of wood and lit a fire in the livingroom fireplace and settled down for a relaxing day with a good book. (Decided to reread an old favorite, Daniel Martin by John Fowles.)

I know eventually that the novelty of this new snowfall will wear off and the drudgery of a long, cold winter will begin to take it's toll, but for now, for today, it was an uplifting and spiritually rejuvenating experience.

Yup, first major snowfall of the year.
Was outside shoveling at 6 am this still-dark morning. Can't say I enjoyed it.
But that's because I was late and had to hurry. I don't mind shoveling on weekends though. And yes, it is a quite awsome sight to see that virgin white blanket covering everything. Just wish I didn't have to go to work in it.

Like Phar0e, I live in western Canada (Calgary Alberta). Trust us - the novelty wears thin really fast. Fortunately we get chinooks here, probably not so where you live Phar0e.

When we left for holidays on August 1st, it was snowing. That's summer dammit!

Can you please, please send the bulk of your snow here to Virginia. I grew up in Minneapolis and I miss it sooo bad I hope we get a winter where we get snowed in for a straight week. Bring it on!!!

I side with Chef Garry! I live in Edmonton. We have already had enough snow. I'm waiting for spring. Though from what I've seen we get 10 months of snow and 2 months of bad skiing!

We don't get much snow here in the UK. When it does snow it usually turns to slush pretty quick. Only in those rare cold winters do we get the proper stuff. Snow is fun, slush is misery...

I live on Long Island, NY, which somehow has the same weather code as Virginia, but when it snows, IT SNOWS. (Really) Check out my house when the IRS people took its picture, http://www.mynassauproperty.com/images/photos/4550/39392++04550-0.jpg

^^^Yeah, up there. Click it. Its really the picture the IRS people took.^^^

Saw snow here last in 1991. Havoc ensued driving, no ecceleration, just sliding. I guess it should never snow in the swamp! Lived in Nebraska for a while and loved the snow, even the slush. Icelandic ancestry. How did I end up in Louisiana????? "Ain't life interesting."

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow. I moved to the Colorado Rockies for a reason!! Ski, Ice Climb, Snowmobile....and in the few short warm months, Water ski, Rock climb, Mountain biking!! We have had an early opening to almost all our ski resorts this year and the one just a few miles from me opens tomorrow!! Whoo HOO gonna go skiing!! Sorry, I love the snow.

It's around 30C on average now.
Sounds good but the entire country is in the grip of the most severe drought for decades.
It's always bloody tough on the rural sector, either no rain or too much! >
And then they have to cope with the quotas placed on their exports to 'trading partners' .... > >

Here's a pic I took of my local scenery http://www.deviantart.com/view/943630 Looks quite serene but there was a howling gale blowing with a temp of -5C making my fingers stick to the camera...
