I guess they cannot do it themselves so they steal it. They get there name in the limelight for a while and at worse they have them removed, and or get exiled. Thats no big deal because all they have to do is create a new account with a different name and they are back in business. Pity.

yes more downloads and more wonderful comments ... but, i like to do wallpaper and sometimes you need much time and hard work to make a wallpaper and of course the idea of the wallpaper and it's so bad that someone rips the concept and all the hard work of you... a thing that you had created! > > >

I really dislike putting my signature and copyright on my pictures. They can be removed anyway with a little ingenuity. Lousy thieves, I hate them >

in future i will put my signature on the walls. adni18 said it's not good to do that, cauze most people dislike names... but what can you do?
He's right, most people don't like to download your pictures if they're signed. I noticed that long ago.

bigronny, If it's small and at the bottom there will be little problem. The object bar will cover it.

It will show up in the preview, but when downloaded it can be covered.

There are far too many talented artists here and elsewhere to allow any 'borrowing' to go on, whether it be icons, ui elements, photos, or complete works. There will always be people without the moral resources to discern the varying degrees of the evil.

There's a lot of effort going on to change things, but those people are abused a great deal for their efforts. The next time you see a 'copyright' discussion, remember situations like this. If people are allowed the steal that image of J.Lo's butt, why should they not assume they are allowed to steal from you?

mmh why not... it's nothing with rights... it's only the thing that somebody copied your work and make the work to his/her work. k... there was no copyright, but when i have a submission on wincustomize.com my copyright is there... not on the pic but everybody knows that'S my pic and that's not the way that anybody submitts athe same pic and he get the same copyright to this/my pic!? kkk

there's no way out

bigronny...
When you create a work, whether it is uploaded anywhere or not, it has an inherent copyright.
When uploaded to a site, a script may include '© bigronny', but that is simply a courtesy thing.
With the '©' or without, or with your signature or without, makes no difference.
All you need to be able to show is verification that the work is yours....by date or perhaps 'work in progress' pics.
99 times out of 100, who is the ripper and who is the 'rippee' is easy to determine, even without that....

A good trick is still to 'sign' your work for 2 reasons.
1. Anyone who has your work already will be able to 'know' it is one of yours....[I have a lot of walls with no idea whose they are].
2. Many rippers are so inept that even blanking a signature is beyond them and can be seen for what it is.

BoXXi's ripper on DA also ripped 7thsign here, and one of his walls still had 7thsign's name on it.....really wasn't hard to show as a rip...

IF you put a sig on your work, make it VERY unobtrusive so it does not 'ruin' the wall.
If a problem arises with a rip we will look VERY closely at the walls to attempt to find evidence of tampering...pixel by pixel if needed.

As baker said, we do make a great deal of effort to police property theft/forgery.

In the case of LilMegz97, who cross-ripped both to Wincustomize and Devart, he was exiled here by BoXXi [poetic justice], and my policy violation notification at DA came back from Reality Squared as that he'd been banned there as well.

It is always a MAJOR DRAMA when it is yourself who becomes the target of a ripper, but bear in mind that this is happening to someone, somewhere ALL THE TIME, and it is up to all of us to do as much as we can to help put an end to it.
Unfortunately, summary execution isn't an option, but all that is needed is for people to keep their eyes open, and report rips as and when they are found.
If you publicly report it, be aware that sometimes people get it wrong, and it isn't a rip, so try to keep things cordial and factual.

Nothing is gained by public flaming or emotional invective...

Even if you sign it, it can be removed without much effort!

'Citizen ReBBeL' has had a change of 'status', and is no longer capable of posting rips or any other works/comments here.

Wincustomize.com, being administered by your fellow skinner/themer/artists, will take [has taken] strict measures to uphold/defend the copyrights of its members, and those of its 'sister' sites in the online Art community....

thx jafo for the words... my english isn't the best. i understand that the work is always mine as long as i can prove it. and that's happened with the date. otherwhise it's better to sign the artwork. for example on the wallpaper. in future i'll do it!

i really was shocked as i saw that somebody used my works for his submissions. everybody would be angry in that situation. it's a prob, but not insoluble.

bigronny...your English is better than my Deutsch...

My comment wasn't just for you, but to re-assure you all that we look after our people here...

Use a digital watermark: ( http://www.digimarc.com/ )

It can be destroyed fairly easily, but not without purposeful effort. Resizing, etc., won't do it. In the cases where the images are resized or slightly manipulated, your watermark will remain. When someone is uploading the same material at other sites, it can make your claim easily verifiable.
