Skinmunity Site

Skinmunity Site

It is an idea i have been playing around with the past couple of days http://www.skinmunity.homestead.com/index.html

The pages are up but i don't have any content yet. It will have a combination of Text and Button links and maybe some thumbs on the software page. i also want to write a description to each link, and whatever other ideas i think of.

I think this is a good idea, Please take a look and tell me what you think...good idea? bad idea? How is the layout? Good on the eyes? Any Tips or Suggestions will be greatly Appreciated. Thanks

wow...just looked through the code...what did you use to create that, out of curiosity?

i think it is the absolute coordinates you have your div tags set to for location that may be causing the page to go off peoples' screens...

just a guess, since trying to pick it apart in dreamweaver didn't help me figure it out much...

Hello Kinrik: I'm using Homestead Site Builder (WYSIWYG)

in dreamweaver, layouts like that seem to be optimized when using layers (absolute coordinates, including z axis simulation).

i think, like i mentioned, that your absolute definition of the div tags set to begin somewhere in the mid-to-high 800 pixel range and extend horizontally from there are what's pushing the edge off the screen, but again, I'm still kinda new and unfamiliar with your software. sorry I can't be of much help.

still, a very nice looking site!

Thanks Kinrik I ran a HTML checker and found a lot of errors, so i am in the process of cleaning it up. I found out that while using HomeStead, automated centering and resizability are not supported. So i am trying to decide to keep it at 1024 or changing it to 800

Ok folks, this is pretty much the final template for Skinmunity http://www.skinmunity.homestead.com/index.html

I have narrowed the page to 800(as per some suggestions ) Cleaned up under the hood and re-aligned everything.
Thanks for your comments and now i can get back to adding links

Oh, and i am thinking of adding a Tutorials link page, what do ya think?

What about putting in some mouse-overs for the links on the left side? Have the red buttons light up just a little bit.

hi elvee, theere's some links about skinning:
for Mac:
http://www.resexcellence.com -> This is the most visited, and here you can find any Mac skinning related site, but i recommend:
http://www.iconfactory.com/ -> the really masters on 'iconism' on any platform
http://www.theapplecollection.com/ -> the most Mac-innovative and larger wallpaper collection around.
http://www.panic.com/index.html -> the creators of Audion and major OSX goodies.

for Linux:
http://www.kde-look.org/ -> for KDE desktop, where a skin is viewed by the most 'anxious' people.
http://art.gnome.org -> for gNome desktop. The most elegant skins and wallpapers for Linux. It is very new and needs to be 'refined', but it will be the standard gnome desktop customization website.
http://www.themedepot.org -> for gNome and (less) for KDE desktops. The most new, and intended to be the 'skniz.org' of Linux desktops.

I don't know about artists, but there's some interesting site's of Everaldo, Pixture Studios, Mormegil, Xymantix (only for say some of them).

Thanks

Ok elvee
Lots of Windows users ask 'where can i find beautiful Mac wallpapers?'.
And some skinners are asking 'how can i start to make my own sins/icons for Linux?'.
Anyone can find the answers on these links
Let me know if you need any information.

Thanks!

Styl skinner:
Linux itself don't have any icon program.
There's the xfree86 that runs the graphical interface. Then there's some filemanagers for managing your files visually, that can be named desktopmanagers. The most important are KDE and gNome, very similar to Windows and OSX.
KDE have some tools for icons: a icon theme installer, and a icon editor. You need a graphic creation tool to create icons.
GNome have similar tools.
Windows have a similar tool (a icon editor), but not a icon theme installer.

If you are using KDE 3.x.x (i guess no due to your distribution), go to www.kde-look.com in icons section and read the 'installation' instructions to see how kde works with icons. Your Mandrake version is old for modern interfaces (not for act as a server). There's available the Mandrake 9 for free, and Suse 8.1 for free too (in this case only available via ftp)
