Animated JPG's as Dreams and more...

I think i won't extend my Object Desktop subscription when it expires.

Most of the WindowBlinds themes are very poorly done. Wrong perspectives and lighting, unsharp & aliased borders, overdone and badly done decor, etc.  Most of the themes are just weird/wrong/ugly looking.

It's like 99% of the work here is made by newbies, children or just people that are resistant to progress.

But the worst are the Dreams. Badly animated pictures over and over. In my opinion there should be a subcategory for animated pictures which i would never open.

Always the same procedure. Selecting the water parts, applying a water filter, maybe adding some giant "particles"... and all of this on an static background... it almost hurts to watch. It's unnatural and ugly.

The site became so overwhelmed by a few bad artist that it really doesn't make any fun anymore to browse it.

I have to click through literally thousands of poorly/wrong done designs to find something halfway good looking. Sorry, i won't pay for this anymore.

On Deviantart the quality standards are much higher because the users are honest. Not like here, where you can find sycophants for even the worst piece of work.

Ah, always good to get cogent input from someone who has been here for 6 months.

You 'could' improve the content by submitting yourself what you consider to be better [provided it is yours to do so, of course].

There IS NO 'quality standards' on Deviantart.com  She has no actual Moderation at all.   What you get is whatever anyone bothers to upload.

.....and just to add....the oldest, most experienced skinners in the 'industry' are to be found here, particularly with reference to Windowblinds....;)

End of Jafo's quote

here's another member who's only been skinning for 6 months... and in that time, grown to create an excellent blind that is in the process of becoming a Suite...

not a bad effort for 6 months...   ;)

people do this for a hobby and upload their work free at different standards/stages... learning as they go along...  right up to Masterskins...

I get the idea of some of what you've said... but I don't recognise your name at all.. and wonder if you've ever left constructive criticism to help people learn through feedback... people here are anxious to please and responding to constructive critique is a surefire way to motivate them to do better...

Wincustomize VS DeviantART

Wincustomize is the last remaining (serious) site souly dedicated to skinning.
(Most submissions are moderated prior to publication)

DeviantART is a dump site for anyone who knows (or thinks they know) how to make a doodle.
(NO submissions are moderated prior to publication)

Am I just a biased Wincustomize fanboy dizzing DA?
Nope, far from.
You gotta realize that the two sites are very different though they started out with (mostly) a common goal - skinning - but DA have since strayed from the path and headed down the general art path. (art - ment in a VERY broad fashion....)

95% of what can be found on DA is either useless or crap, and wouldn't even try to make a guess at how many submissions they've got. I do know for a fact that they passed 50 mill. 6 years ago.
Wincustomize has gotten far, far less submissions but a far higher percentage is of usefull/good quality.
We do though have our fair share to 'shittyness' - just browse through the wallpaper gallery. There are many gems, but the rest.... holy shit.

Anyway... The moral of this? Ain't got a clue..... heh. ;)

But.... and I might get (more) unpopular for saying this but if you hold DA in such a high place, why come telling it here? Why not just stay over there?
;)

Snow's essentially correct...although the original 'charter' of Devart was to be 'Art in general', not particularly skinning as such.

Both sites started effectively at the same time and the vast majority of members were members of BOTH, and many still are.

A close analysis of both would see Devart with the younger age-group...and its fair share of 'sycophants' though balanced with blunt and stoic adherence to the concept of 'free speech at all costs and damn the consequences' at least one of which was a suicide.

Sometimes the choice seems like....student anarchy vs mature common sense....but it's a free world...that's why we have both sites thriving still....13 years later...;)
