Taskbar not showing icons on right

I just installed Win 8.1 so maybe it's a compatibility issue with 8.1, but what is happening is that I cannot see any of the icons on the right side of the taskbar such as volume, the date and time or any running program icons.

I tried to uncheck/check the taskbar transparency option but that did not help.

Any ideas at all?
