being payed for a design

would you pay 2 euro/dollar cent (0.02 dollar) for downloading one of these artworks, (that 1 cent goes to the designer, the other 1 cent goes to the owner of www.wincustomize.com)

Styl skinner

You earlier remarked, "cool, hoping for such a asignment, but never comes to me," it's rather easy actually. Well, it's rather easy if you have contact with people in the management levels of other companies. Basically, just evangalize WindowBlinds and when they get curious show them a screenshot or something of your computer running a skin you've created. Also, it helps if they regularly contract you to do graphics stuff for them.

Yeah geus that is treu jobeleca, but designing started as a hobby for me, sometimes i make things for friends, but same story counts for me, i am just in designing for about 3 months, i made this site as a beginning, just as a challange: http://www.shadownes.tk when i was done with it i got intrested in designing.
I´m not having contacts or something in the design world, but i think that my time is comming soon , but again, your work looks realy nice, my compliments.
What do you think of the first idea of this topic? let people pay 2 cent for a wall?
Let me know ok?

Styl,

Doing web pages started out as a hobby when I was in 9th grade, I didn't go commercial until my first year of college. I got started by talking to various people in my church that I knew owned small businesses. A couple people were interested and asked to see some of the sites I had done for myself and then asked me to do some sites for them.

I had intended for skinning to be just a hobby until one of my clients saw what I was doing and asked for a skin for his business etc. I hadn't intended to go commercial with this, but I'm not going to turn away $$$

I visited your site. Unfortunately, the presentation kept freezing in the section that presented the options "intro" and "skip intro". It might just be my browser, but you might want to check it out. Here's a site I'm currently working on http://www.sktsd.com

As for the $0.02 idea, I think that while it needs to be refined, it is basically a good idea. The cost is low enough to not be a burden, I'd definitely be willing to pay $1 for 50 skins. Because it would be pay, it would lighten the server load by driving away some of the habitual freeloaders, thus speeding up the site for everyone else. Also, because there would be a monetary incentive for excellent work the average quality of work would likely go up. For the top people it might even be enough to make a living off of skinning, just imagine that your full time job is doing this. Of course, the downside is that there would likely be more copycat skins, though the moderation system would minimize this problem.

Some refinements to the idea: One possible refinement is allowing 10 free downloads before requiring payment to get people hooked on the site. A second refinement is to allow the designer to choose whether their work should be freely available or whether it should be pay content (make this option per skin instead of accountwide). A third refinement is to allow people to put any amount of money into their account instead of requiring $10 up front. A fourth refinement is keying the amount paid to the user level and making all content free to skinners.

Styl, I've uploaded a screenshot of the beta version of RedRew-Cru https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=13&SkinID=1019 It's much better than the alpha version that I linked to earlier. Let me know what you think

The site you are working on looks nice , maybe a bit basic, however it isn´t a site about design, good work!

0.02 cent idea, yeah, i do not think people could make their living of it, however adni18 is on the good way .
But it should be a nice amount of cash to spend, imagine, with 7 peaces of work i should own 140 dollars.

The screenshot also looks nice, made in skin studio right?
And my site, it works fine by me, just skip the intro if it don´t works, exactely, do you have a site of your own, where you show your work to customers?

And what kind of programs do u use to do your design work? (photoshop, bryce, 3d max etc etc)

I do have a site of my own to show my work to customers, however I'm somewhat embarassed to show it. It's just one of those things where I put all my effort into other people's sites and neglect my own. Honestly, I just did it as a project for one of my classes, deemed it good enough, and haven't touched it much since. http://www.maverickproductions.net

My personal site is at http://jobeleca.bravepages.com and the story behind it is the same. It was a college project that I deemed good enough and slapped on the web.

As you can see from the above sites, I have a preference for clean design (though you might think of it as simplicity).

As for the .02 cent idea, the logon I posted recently could have paid for lunch next week. That's good enough for me. And yes, I made it in SkinStudio. I may prefer doing web stuff at the code level, but it's best to learn at the GUI level. As for your site, I couldn't skip the intro, it simply froze there and wouldn't let me any further. From what I could see, I think I would like your site.

I took a look at some of the stuff you have done, nice You seem to be more "design" oriented than I am. I basically went straight from amature to having clients that wanted either very cheap frontpage stuff or simple designs like you saw on SKTSD.com
