Explorer.exe crashes at boot-up in Windows 7 when Fences is enabled

On my Thinkpad X301 laptop, explorer.exe crashes at boot-up when Fences is enabled. This doesn't happen at every boot, but probably 2 times out of 3. I have to log out of Windows and try again, sometimes several times in a row to get my desktop to appear.

When I "unenable" Fences, it boots properly every time. Enable again, crash again!

What could cause this, and is there a known solution?

Do you have any network shortcuts on your desktop?

None of my desktop icons are network shortcuts -- unless the Dropbox icon counts!

I do have some network shortcuts set up in my file manager; could they make Fences crash my boot-up?
