Research projects

On an older computer that I used to use, this game would be able to perform multiple research tasks at one time (1 of each kind was no problem). I could have 3 going at once if I wanted. How come this can't happen on any other computer that I have. How can I make it do more than one at a time?

You can have 1 research per tech tree going at once. You've never been able to say research 2 military techs at once, but you could have 1 military and 1 civic tech research simultaneously.

I knew that you could not have more than one research project in any one category going on at the same time.

What I used to be able to do on the other computer was a research project in each category (military, civic and fleet) all at the same time.  Please tell me why my newer computer which has more RAM and faster processor cannot do the same. Is there some setting in the game that controls this, I have looked and cannot find any such setting.

That is what should happen, there is no setting. I'd double check to make sure you didn't say cue up a research in advance before you had the labs to actually research it.
