Shutdown no longer works after install?

Hi,

 

I recently (yesterday ) clean installed windows 8 and got it all up to date via windows update.

 

The problem is that, since I installed 1.15, I can no longer shut down the machine!

 

The windows logon application and the windows startup application are both grabbing as much of the CPU as possible and are both now running at 49.9%

 

Can anyone give me any advice or help?

You may have many updates installing.  I'd vote on "wait"

Hi,

 

Nope I was fully up to date. :)

However I did manage to fix it should anyone run across the same problem in the future.

It was nothing to do with start8 - it was windows having trouble scheduling chkdisk at the next boot.

The cure was as simple as finding the BootExecute value in the current session using regedit and removing everything relating to chkdisk.

 However it is important to restart once doing so. Once it comes back up shutdown worked perfectly.

The clue was that reboot worked - just not shutdown.
