Starone to Feline (re Menu)

Starone to Feline (re Menu)

Hey, Feline. Remember the menu issue we were pondering over back on the object bar thread? Well, when the later version of WB came out and I updated to XP, the problem cleared up. However, I have just discovered that werewolf now has the same problem I had at the time. Whenever he tries to open up one of the items on the menu, instead of opening the program it throws him into Object Edit. This is all very strange, huh? Don't know why my problem cleared itself as I didn't do anything to get it to work. Thought this might be of interest to you as we had labored many hours over this. Also kind of hoping that maybe someone else may read this and have a clue that might help werewolf out.

I'm sorry feline, it's liquidaqua...... oops Starone has already posted it.

I just thought you were prescient (?) or at the very least psychic.

Yes, I'll be there with a Wincustomize T-shirt on. However, it seems if anything says skinners (and when whispered in email I get porn emails in reply), the wrong idea seems to pop up. May have to fight everyone off that isn't part of the skinner crowd.

Whoa, this is getting to be quicker than email. Well, maybe feline will show up soon too.

just because i am psychic doesnt mean that i spend all of my spare time reading your mind.

after all, that would remove the fun of the hunting games in the forests!

Hi feline...

can you get into the irc and /join #quicklaunch ?

if not, using the smartbutton quicklaunch menu...when I click on an item, the executable for that item is loaded into Object Edit

irc?

/me once heard of that somewhere

at the moment i have a more basic problem.
i cannot seem to get the smart buttons to work at all!

theory a) i havent yet found them
theory b) they just arent working on this machine
theory c) the version of the skin i have doesnt contain them
theory d) i have the same problem you have. but since i dont have OE installed, it is showing up differently.

all right then. loading the UIS file for the Liquidaqua skin in vim shows that this is by starone, and that it really does have smart buttons.

i *think* this may be progress

i am going to have to reverse engineer the UIS file at this rate.

i have a skinned notepad window here. it is blue, and it has that starone skin style to it

i have two groups of 4 buttons at the top of the window, one on the left and one on the right. none of them seem to be smart buttons.

there are two buttons at the ends of the vertical window borders. none of those (4) seem to be smart buttons.

there is only 1 button left, which is an IE 'e' symbol on the bottom border, in the right hand corner. this also doesnt seem to be a smart button.

but when this is my main skin WB says there are two smart buttons that i can configure. so where are they???

this is:
OS = winXP pro
WB = 3.4c

currently using the Liquidaqua as a per app skin for notepad, so that when my experiments cause it to destroy new windows, it isnt to destructive.

so, which buttons do you think are supposed to be the smart buttons?

a parallel point, it is heading for midnight local time. so soon i will be off to sleep. back again tomorrow though.

werewolf, which version of OE do you have installed?
also, is the OE exe referenced by your PATH variable?

trying to run down some of the variables ahead of tomorrows assult on the UIS file

Feline, forget all buttons but these two: Button No. 8 is the Menu smartbutton (ctrl-menu). The other smartbutton is No. 6 which is the url button. Button No. 8 is the 2nd button from the top left. Button No. 6 is the bottom right button on the bottom border.

If you mean the quick launch menu I have the same problem on Win2k. It works fine on XP but on 2k it opens the app in Object Edit. It must have to do with the path for the quick launch links being a WinNT directory instead of a Win directory. I'd guess that the script has the path in it... maybe you can edit the script? I haven't tried fixing it yet, just disabled the smart button on the 2k box...

Yup, that's the little devil (the quick launch menu). Is Stardock support aware of the problem with Win2K I wonder?

Too early in the a.m. I guess as I forgot to thank you for your response DavidK. I beg forgiveness.

By the way, Feline, want to change nicks? Hum, on second thought probably not. Might get too confusing.

Oh yes, Feline, the irc. I'll let werewolf explain it to you. (After all, I'm just a dizzy blonde at the moment. Too early in the a.m. to think logically.)

DavidK, interesting idea.

it is worth noting that when i first started hunting this problem with starone it failed on her win98 machine, but worked on my win98 machine.

so, if a directory with the expected name is created, and links placed into it, the quick launch menu plugin should start working? anyone want to try that experiment?

i am not sure you are right DavidK, since the plugin seems to be correctly finding the quick launch dir.

on my winXP box, this dir is in:
D:\Documents and Settings\Feline\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

i have just added another shortcut to this folder, and when i reload notepad it is picked up by the smart button menu. i had to reload notepad before this change was picked up though.

i was under the impression that windows has a function to return these paths to your program, so they shouldnt be hard coded. as i recall, this folder is in roughly the same place in both win2k and winXP, so if it can be found under one OS, why not the other?

also, i doubt that the abouve path is hard coded, since it wouldnt work on anyone else's machine.

what we could do with is seeing if this works on anyone's win2k machine.

anyone out there able to prove or disprove this?

i have a win2k machine at work, so can check it out there, but wont be back again until tuesday (saturday now). a faster answer would be nice.

starone - By the way, Feline, want to change nicks? Hum, on second thought probably not. Might get too confusing.

/me wonders what to change feline to
how about:
SuperHedgehog, able to leap tall buildings with a single bound

/me *sigh*
making me choose between a dizzy blond and werewolf just isnt fair

i want both of you!

Actually when typing this I wasn't awake. Meant to say: "Want to switch nicks."
but if i do that then i would be taking all your credit for all your skins!

that is you at number 5 in the top authors list you know!

how about we just catch up with T-Man instead? if we ask him nicely he has the power to change your nick. how about "starone the pussycat"?
