Page switch shortcut problem

Hello,
all modern multi-desktop sofwares offer a shortcut (often Alt-1,2,3,4 of F1, F2...) to switch from one page to another.
These shortcuts work even when the desktop is not selected !
With Fences 2.0, the desktop has to be selected, this is very anoying and a wast of time (I first need to reduce all windows, selecte the desktop, then I can use the shortcut....).
I find Fences extremely usefull and beautiful... but this missing global shortcut is for me a reason not to use it...and not to buy it, sadly.
Can I modify any setting to make this shortcut global, without the need to select the desktop first ?
