CD Rom, CD RW, Zip Drive Icons will NOT change with Icon Packager ...

Please advise! I have tried the suggetion on the help page of the Icon Packager, but my icons still will not change for my CD Drives (I have a CD-Rom and CD-RW). Also, I have a 250 Zip which uses its own Icon. I would love to have these change to match the other in the icon theme. I assume the Zip is probably set by the software program that is used with it. I don't understand why the CD's will not change. Any suggestions on changing these? When I look at the icon theme or even in Desktop Architect they show the CD icons as that of the theme, but when I go to my computer, they are the old style. Just one of the little things that wants to drive my crazy. Hope someone has some good advice. I only just got the OD last weekend, so I am still pretty new and green at this and perhaps I am doing something wrong. Please response ASAP. I wait with bated breath ...!

If I remeber correctly in XP, those drive icons are not really icons. In short I don't think they can be changed if you are using XP.

Bill is correct. The "icons" change states on the drive depending on if there is something in them or not. They aren't icons the way that the others are, so IP can't change them. With the ZIP Drive, you should be able to manually change it.

If You have Iomegaware installed, the icons can be found in 'C:\Program Files\Iomega\DriveIcons\Imghook.dll'
You can prevent the icons from loading by deleting 'Iomega Drive Icons' from HKLM\Run in the registry.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I just have to live with those icons looking the way they want instead of how I want ... such is life!

Yup, Just Jane! we have to live with it for now.
I asked the same question a week ago.

Just Jane! and jarget. I can change my DVD icon without any problem, though I appear to have some dissenters! If you would like to e-mail me I will send you a .jpg screenshot of my 'My Computer' showing the changed icon (applies to desktop shorcuts too).

Fuzzy, put a DVD in your drive and open My Computer...

It should have a different "look" to it now.

I think you missed the point somewhere. The problem is IP cannot change the default CD/DVD icon - there are other programs which will. Of course the icon changes when you put a DVD in, its supposed to! As I said before, I don't have any difficulty changing the default drive icon, despite people saying it can't be done. All you need is the right program to do it - IP isn't it!

Someday the boffins at Stardock will figure out how to get IP to do it. Until then I will continue to use my alternative prog (which is four years old and originally designed for Win98 and yes, it does run ok on XP) which has no difficulty changing any type of icon.

Fuzzy, what is this program you that you speak of, sounds great. I have the same problem and i am such a perfectionist that these out-of-place icons are *really* anoying my now!
