Icon experts.....please help....

Could someone please advise me on this icon thing. I do realize that icon files can end in different extensions and I have downloaded a few programs to aid in opening these files but I am still having trouble viewing the different icon files I have. I have winzip, irfanview and even stuffit. I tried to make sure that I associated the correct program needed to open the file but they still open up to all netscape icons and then I have to keep reopening the file until I finally reach the icon. Then I don't know how to apply the icon once it is reached. Whey don't they all just open in the same window?? Anyone?? This is getting so frustrating. Anyone willing to attempt to answer this. Hopefully, you understand what I am asking. Thanks for any advice or replies. cscally befuddled!!!!!!!

Just go to www.stardock.com and get the IconPackager, then you will be able to apply all the new icons with just one click!
Otherwise, just rename the .ip file to .zip file, unzip it and use the icons as you like.

Wait...more questions. You are saying that all I have to do is add .zip to the end of the file extension and then unzip. I am no expert but that doesn't sound right, if that were the case there would be no need for other programs to open files that winzip couldn't. Here is an example of what I am talking about. I have downloaded a lot of icons from iconverge and I can open a few of the files but then I'll reach the file where the icons are located and it will say that file cannot be opened and the extension in unknown -or- I can open the file but all icons appear with the netscape icon and then I have to hit every icon separately, netscape has to open and then it will show a pic of the icon BUT I cannot access it to use as a replacement icon for my desktop. I hope I am making sense here. Sorry for rambling but it has been a huge waste of time trying to blindly figure out how to do this. As for the icon packager, I like to use all different icons to customize and really don't want to use a whole theme package. There has to be a way!! Anyone???? ps. another example is icon files with LZH files, they say I need to use a self-extracting archive called LHA213.EXE to work with them, anyone else heard of this or work with this external program required to work with LZH files??? Please respond if you get where I'm trying to go with this. Huge thanks for anyone that can help me!! still befuddled!!!!!!!

Just download microangelo. If you download some icons, extract them with winzip to a place you can remember. Now right click on the icon you want to change and click appearance. Now you can choose which icon you want.

I was talking about the icons you can get from here, WinCustomize. Those icons are for Icon Packager.
Just put .zip in the end of the file, (instead of .ip), unzip it and use the icons as you like.
It can't be more clear! Just do it and you will see.
