Windows 8 Opportunity - Pin Start Screen to a Monitor
Pin the start screen to a dedicated monitor
I have a multi-monitor issue with Windows 8 that might present an opportunity for Stardock. I've been using your products for years now and love every one of them. I've always been impressed with the way you can bend Windows to your will
Anyway here is the issue. When using multi-monitors in Windows 8, there is no way to pin the new start screen to a monitor. Doesn't sound like a big deal until you really try working with both the metro interface and the desktop interface at the same time on different monitors. Let's say that you have the new start screen on a monitor or tablet or laptop convertible with touch capability, and you hook it up to a couple of non-touch monitors a keyboard and mouse, etc. when you get to the office. The ideal situation is that you would open the desktop UI on two monitors and dedicate your touch enabled device for "metro" and new start screen, as it is best suited for that. The trouble is that if you engage one of the monitors running the desktop UI by opening a legacy program or anything else, the monitor with the Metro Start Screen will disappear and be replaced by the desktop UI.
This is so annoying that i have given up ever using metro apps while at work. MS almost got this right but missed. One thing you can do is open a metro app on one screen and it will never disappear on you, however when it comes to keeping a start screen itself on a monitor you would like to dedicate for that purpose, it simply does not work. I really cant understand how MS could have missed this. If they are going to build the future of windows on Live Tiles, you would think they would make every effort possible to ensure you can utilize them at all times. I mean, what's the point of having them if you can't keep them up on the screen when you have multi-monitors.
Anyway, there is starting to be some complaints on the MS forums on this issue and thought it might present itself as an opportunity for Stardock to create a utility to pin the start screen on a monitor. Maybe an option in Start8 or Decor8?
Thanks for all the great tools you provide and keep the good work up!
