Interesting ? Wincusto won't load in IE6

I've got an odd question ... I have a laptop and desktop at work, both running IE6, both have Internet access through our firewall, etc., etc. I can get to Wincusto using IE6 on my laptop just fine, but not on my desktop. I've gone through all the IE settings and mirrored them on both machines, I've hosed the cache, history, all cookies, etc.. I *can* get to wincusto on my desktop using Mozilla. Also, I can't use SkinBrowser on my Desktop either, but just fine on my laptop.

I work in the IT department and we've bounced it around but haven't come up with a solution. So, thought I throw it out here. Any thoughts?

Dan,

One question: Do you have Mozilla installed on your laptop?

I have had some very flaky things happen with IE6 since I installed Mozilla. I haven't been able to pin it down yet. There must be a conflict over who is using which port or something.

As to why you can't install the Skinbrowser, that is very strange, but it could be a problem with the firewall, I would check out the newsgroups, [email protected] , or irc.stardock.com #Stardock

I do have Mozilla installed on my laptop, version 1.1b from 7/22/02. My desktop is running a newer nightly build from 8/4/02, that was obviously just installed a couple of days ago. I've been having this problem for about 3-4 months on my desktop, so I've gone through multiple builds of Mozilla.

As far as SkinBrowser goes, I can get it installed, just can get it to connect to Wincusto. Can't even get it to download the 'Site Updates' data.

Thanks ... Dan

Very strange indeed! If I can think of anything I will pop back in.

I've just developed the same problem within the last couple days on my home desktop: IE 6 and Skinbrowser will not connect to and load the site. Opera, however, loads it fine on the same PC. (I don't have Mozilla so that's not an issue.)

IE will load the home page if I input the site's dns # rather than the text url, but that only helps for the home page and further browsing of the site through the links on the page won't go. Does that provide any clue in terms of what (presumably) the browser may be doing to muck up the connection?

Haven't tried to repair IE yet. So far I've only noticed the problem with wincustomize.

Well, this doesn't help you, but I can load Wincusto just fine in IE6 (& WinXP).

Does taking all other browsers off (Opera, Mozilla etc) and repairing IE6 help?

three_4me, just to make sure I understand your problem: with your desktop with IE6, is WinCustomize the ONLY site on which you can't get or are there other sites too?

Also, when you say you can't get on WC site, what error message does IE gives you exactly? This is important to pinpoint more precisely your problem.
