YIPPEEEEE... I got my new computer!

Only it seems to think my name is owner now. How do I change that on the start menu?

HEH... all the keys work on my keyboard!

GoodMorphing!

Just click the user icon and from the window that appears, click the button back, there you will find a link-button "Change my name". That is all

Great to hear GoodMorphing!

Regarding your question....to change the name click on the Control Panel in the start menu, then click on User Accounts, then click on the account you want to change, then click on Change My Name.....then you can change the name.

get a permanent marker, and write over the monitor! This solution is good in case you are allways changing the operative system.

Oh wow..... thanks! Motion, I have all your Liniation skins, Rustic, and two others from you on my other computer. I am going to e-mail the folders to myself and drag them in! Nikos, thank you! You are always so helpful! Now I can get more of your beautiful wall papers... I got lots of room now. Carlitus (, I will have to wipe away all that white out smeared all over the monitor first!).... I am so glad you came back! Now you can expect me to go for your stuff too!

HEH... this computer, it is a lot faster! I thought I had stuff installed right before but all kinds of things are showing up that go with programs I already had! I kept the same old monitor, but windows changed the resolution to 1024/768. I think I kind of like it. And all the keys on my keyboard actually work!

This computer nearly pays for itself with the perks that came with it!

and you know what else? When I stuck up for my sister and told them to LISTEN to her? They timed her disability all the way back to then! Two years! She got more than 20k! I am so glad for her! I feel so good about that, I just have to tell someone!

Happy for you GoodMorphin. I know you will enjoy using the new PC. I know that when I went from my old Pentium 266M to my present P4 2.2G it was an incredible shock.

BTW, if the email trick doesn't work out than let me know, I'll send you any of my older ones that you want. (I still have them saved on my D drive.)

Once again, congrats on the new system ......enjoy!

Will do, Motion! WiseOldMan... if it weren't for you and that poll I'd probably be trying to figure out how to stick a lot of memory in my 399MHZ computer and expecting it to walk on water! You guys sure saved me on that one. But I still don't think I can afford another poll like that one...

I'am glad I could help. When I first started out I did the same thing. Upgraded the old computer until I figured out how much money I'd spent. I could have gotten a new computer.

I'm jealous too! My old 233Mhz system is struggling with XP Pro, and this 15" monitor is a pain in the ***.

Glad to hear about your sister getting what she deserved!
Have fun with the new 'puter!

Thanks! er....I broke it already, back on my old one to take care of business and then to tech support. It worked last night but this morning, it won't do anything. I can't even get to system restore. It won't even turn off.

ah well, this is frustrating but I sure learn a lot.

You wanna borrow my big hammer? It worked when I installed my new hard drive!

/me goes back to hammering in the screws on the case.....

I found out that if your 'puter crashes to the point where it won't turn off...rather than unplugging it from behind...just press and hold the power button for 5+ seconds until the system shuts down. One of the things I learned using Win ME...

Morphing,

What kind of computer did you get? It's always fun playing with new toys!

Sigh.... this is a gateway. I already reformatted it. I had it up three hours and poof! I wake up next morning and it is gone. I suspect it is abour 85% my fault. The other 15% were changes I made that they didn't format for before they shipped it. I am back with my usual 800/600 screen, for one thing. I am almost afraid to install things, though it would feel soooo good to have object desktop back. This day has been exhausting.... I don't make sense to those tech support people, and they don't to me. After we get done, I read the manual and do it my way.

Sorry to hear that...I also have a Gateway, and have had some problems with instability...but I think that could be Win ME...

Good Luck..hope you find a solution quickly...

HEH.... the problem is ME me..., I think. Ah well, the more I stumble around, the better I get.
They included this game called The Sims... it looks fun. There is this wizard that helps me import settings from my old computer into this one, so I think I will try that.

Thanks!

Whew.... new day, everything still where I put it. Since I reformatted my computer has stopped seeking the bigger monitor that I didn't get (BoXXi is right, a 15 inch monitor is a pain, when I saw that they were giving them away with new computers for just about $50 more I almost changed my order again). NOW I can say it... YIPPEEEEEE I got my new computer.... > knocks on wood.....

Sounds like everything is OK now GoodMorphing.

You should look around for a place in your area that deals in refurbished equipment. That's how I got my NEC FE700 monitor. A retailer here where I live called Computer Depot gets them in huge quantities. They come in off 2 year leases from large companies. Computer Depot refurbishes them and sells them real cheap. I got mine for $90.00 (Canadian), which would probably be around $50.00 (US).

It's worth looking into.

In the meantime, enjoy your new system now that it is up and working properly. You'll just have to sit a little close to the monitor for now.

Aren't computers fun? I've just this minute rebooted from a successful BIOS flash which means I can now upgrade from my Athlon 1.4 to a XP2200!!! Yippee!

I'm real glad I invested in that beefy 450W PSU...

My nerves are still shakey from the BIOS flash though, phew!
