Maybe you should email WinSTEP support about this problem. Jorge and crew are very helpful. Be sure to include your specs, including what OS your using.

Hi Aldnn.

What you mentioned happens when the working folder for NextSTART has been changed from the one where the program was installed to (which is stated in the warning you received) or if you tried to manually uninstall NextSTART by deleting all files without first exiting the program (this will cause an 'Access Denied' error when deleting the executable).

The proper way to un-install NextSTART, should you wish to do so, is to exit the application and then uninstall it through the 'Add/Remove Programs' control panel applet. Exiting the application will also restore the normal Windows taskbar, including the systray (unless NextSTART has been made to crash in the mean time, which means you will have to reboot or log out to get your system tray back).

You didn't mention why NextSTART didn't really work in your system - it would be good to know, since all constructive criticism is very much welcomed by us (plus it could be something we might be able to help you with). Did you try reading the User Guide that goes with NextSTART?

Ok, just finished talking to Aldnn on IRC. For the possible benefit of others, here is what happened:

Aldnn downloaded and installed the *upgrade* file winstep-exe.zip instead of the full version, winstep.zip. The web site clearly states that this is for previous users ONLY, since critical files are missing in the upgrade. Being German, Aldnn probably mis-read the warning.

The result was that NextSTART could not function properly and crashed after warning Aldnn about the missing INI files. The resolution to this problem was simply to download the proper file and install that instead.

my problems seemed to be solved now !

first off all i would like to thank the team of Winstep!
i thought it was a mistake of NextStart but i was wrong it was a failure of LiteStep the tool i installed earlier that day. it caused a problem with the explorer.exe (namely that there was problems with uninstalling the tool) . so only myself and maybe litestep were the causers of my problem.
