i am having lots of connection problems with this site over the last couple of days. other sites are loading, but often this one just isnt.

is the bandwidth just totaly maxed out again, or is there some more mysterious effect at work here?

I'm having trouble accessing the site quite a lot lately. /me is wondering if WC is destined collapse under it's own weight.

That could happen, collapseing undr it's own weight, being that this stuff (I love this stuff, BTW) is only going to get more popular. I have been trying to find ways to help the situation though channels vailible to me but no one responded yet. I really think this is the next level for computers (as lame as that may sound) and once it gets rolling it is going to become very popular worldwide.

There has got to be some main stream supporters who will help (and help themselves in the process).

Oh and I think if everyone sets there browsers (on microsoft internet explorer it is in the advanced options) to not to download evrytime you visit a web page. that way your not always asking for image of the server.

I found it. In windows Microsoft Explorer, go to properties

The General setting should come up.
Then go to Settings.

Choose "Everytime you start Internet Explorer"
OR
"Automatically"

Taht way your browser is not always asking the server for reloading images that you already have.

Mine was originally set to "ever visit to the page" of which is not nessicary becuase when you go to a new page it will auto matically load up a new page anyway(unless you visited the page before and the images are different)

Give it a shot

joe.... on a site such as this, it would be silly not to check for new content everytime you load a page. For example, if I'm loading the messageboard, I want to see the latest posts, not the board as I viewed it an hour ago.

The server has been getting hit hard the last few days. We are almost always maxed on bandwidth. About 16 hours of the day we are at our limit. And the server process just gets over burdoned at times the server just can't handle it.

Tomorrow I'm going to do a test with the libraries to see if I can relieve some of the server load.

Is the bandwidth being gobbled up from just ordinary traffic, browsing and downloading? My first thought was that perhaps it was something else like a dos.

ahhh but if your setting is right you will get a fresh load of the message board. it just won't recall all of the images that are the same every time you load the message board

I also notice that even whe the server went down I would still get the top "wincustomize" image before it showed me the server 500-14 something or other page. Explorer checks for new stuff on the page and old stuff it just reloads from the temp file on your hard drive.

Even now the first thing that loads up it the header of Wincustomize. That should help a litte with the bandwidth.

Man, this is worse than customize.org in its Ambulance Days. And for those that don't know what that means, imagine hitting a "the server is busy at the moment" screen 95% of the time.

In a sense this is worse, 'cos I end up with either no page or a half loaded one most of the time, or it's just plain unreachable.

Then again, complaining's not going to do much about it.

/me leans back and waits for better times
