Keep freezing during tutorial

Following is a paste from a log file.  It happens while I'm exploring, waiting for the pioneer to finish training.  Kind of irritating that I can't go through the tutorial of the game I just bought.  Reading through the log file makes it seem to me that there were a number of non-fatal errors as well.  Please advise.  EDIT:  Just tried taking a different path with my exploration waiting for the pioneer to train, and program had a flicker of a window popping up, then immediately closing again, followed by the whole program crashing, rather than freezing.  Its log follows the first:
