Reward hours...

So anyway...I wanted to do some moderating and cleaning up of the sections but unfortunately the site was just too slow to dig into it.

That got me to thinking...

What if we had a certain hour of the day in which the libraries were closed for all but level 3/4 and apprentices? Like 11pm to 12am EST each day or something. That way, there'd be at least an hour each day in which moderators and and others could go through the site where it's at near maximum speed.

What do you think?

As they are scattered around the world wouldn't that make some of them get up in the middle of the night? Maybe they might be at work where they cannot stop. Maybe 2 30 min. say like noon and midnight est. Just a thought.

Go for it!

sounds good to me... it's been really frustrating today.

That would be 8pm to 9pm for me.... Prime Time!

I was just wondering if the "delete your cookies" trick still works...

It shouldn't work anymore but the main issue is just the sheer quanitty of people. One hour of breathing room where we could optionally get on and do our thing at max speed would make things nice.

Interesting idea! Hey I'm all for new ideas, give it a try. I wonder if it would backfire though. There must be at least a few thousand people that would fit that description. If it's adult swim from 11-12, when's everyone going to get in the pool? Maybe a few hours would work better? Sounds like what you really need is a backdoor to the site for Admin/Wizops only so you can maintain the site but not be restricted by the users.

Alright I'm tired and rambling...

Is a good idea, if the users can be informed, in this particular time, to come back later.

Is it possible, for the rest of us, who are not using the EST time, to have always the EST time next to the date in the top of the page were the date excists now?

Why not shut down a half day like on Sunday? Or Saturday? If you notice not many new additions come in on the weekend. Most people take a break on the weekends anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Lots of new submissions come in on the weekends... it's just so busy the admins can't get much done. (or their away for the weekend or their drunk or sleeping or...)

of course, I never go away for the weekend and I don't drink...

I think that equates to 4am-5am in England, but I don't finish work until 5am, (I work nights remember) and it's usually around 5:45am by the time I get in the house and turn the 'puter on. So it wouldn't really help me. You see Brad, this is what happens when you have an international group of helpers! Now, if you just sponsor me for my green card, I'll move over to Michigan and that will solve the problem. Easy eh?

Just a thought, and probably not possible to impliment. Could you reserve bandwidth for the moderators? EG 10% of the bandwidth that only mods can use?

Sounds like a good idea. Anything that would help clean the site up or makes things speedier is welcome.

Perhaps it's not wise to close off the complete site each day. Instead, you could close off some libraries and work on those. Open 'em up again when you're ready. Then again, that probably wouldn't solve the slow access...

That wouldn't solve anything, Crae. The key is speed. If we could have an hour per day where the site's fast, then we could look at skins more, comment more, etc.

Apart from the fact that my phone line has been down for 24 hours....a bloody dry-joint 167 meters away from my house...so couldn't even get on at all....I'm hoping to get cable or something so I don't 'waste' the majority of my life waiting for a site to refresh/reload...

It's a pain when it's been slow....there is only so many times you can re-read War And Peace while you wait....

What about naming this particular hour "Daily Maintenance Hour"? I guess that the visitors will accept it and they will learn not to visit WinCustomize at this particular hour of the day.
