Why Bother?

ummmmmmmm........... wow. I know I am at a loss as to how it can improve. I usually ignore it. I do vote sometimes. But as far as downloading it because it is a low number, I still do.

I don't think leaving will help matters much but protesting is a good idea.

Sometimes I like it and sometimes I wish I could turn it off.

I think the real protest is the themes manager and how to see what you want (like turning the view ratings off).

Sooooooooo... is guess the question is; How do we fix the rating system?

Yea, hooking the ratings with the comments would be a good idea. No rating unless you leave a comment too.

I never pay attention to the ratings. I know what I like One problem is that I use SkinBrowser almost exclusively now and can't apply a rating. Motion: I'm real sorry to see you go. I have always appreciated your work.

As I said in a previous post ratings given by people with little knowledge of skinning can do more harm than good. Now see what they've done.

Rating should be limited to those who post skins, at least they should be able to give a more informed mark.

I have been afraid to rate for just that reason. Sometimes being 1 is the best thing, and sometimes being 10 the best and try as I might to always get it right I was afraid I would surely do it wrong. Not only was Motion a great skinner, but he took a lot of time to help me when I had a problem installing OD. He is a really nice person.

Persons like motion is a honor to have them among us, because the give a certain prestige. This rating system send him away! This rating system helps NOBODY and says NOTHING!!! I know that is useless to say more about it....

I just got a rate 2 for my last uploaded wallpaper and I am not very happy about it, but if this make you happy, go on, it is ok with me.

It's sad to say, but I doubt even people taking drastic steps like motion is will make a difference. If the system is as inconsequential as many would like us to believe, why run the risk of losing people?

It really doesn't matter who rates. When it was Journeymam and above, you still had funny ratings. When it was apprentice and above , it did not get any better. Now it's level four and its still the same. Not enough people are rating. When i or 2 or even 3 are rating the ratings are going to be skewed. So I think more people need to rate.

The thing is, you shouldn't take the ratings personal. Nobody has the wisdom to "rate" work as good or bad. Ratings here are more a sort of ranking popular works. Furthermore, everything that is approved to be in WC Databases should be displayed by default. While the admins might set their settings to display only the popular works. I have set mine to 1 so that I will see everything that's been submitted

I set mine at 4. I do look at 3 and below, and have rated some of them higher. But Lecrayon, I hope that you have taken the time to rate. Everyone should.

I'm sorry to see you go motion, apparently the only people who can put in a rating must be the very fortunate few that can create these objects in the first place. (Since I've never noticed anywhere that people like me can vote for anything. In fact I've just now started commenting on the various objects after a year of downloading, and that is because one of the "regulars" tipped me off that the skinners actually appreciated the comments.

I do not think we should get rid of voting ut come up with a better system that give more fead back than a number. (I also do not think it should be a letter either; grades are so lame, like internet advertising)

It has to be a system that a lazy person, or a person who doe not have time, or a person who wants to help, or a person who has a view on the persons work can give a opinion

One time I was looking through the skins, waaaay back. I found a skin called SteelCopper by TinyRay Grier that was created in 02/2002. It has become one of my favorite skins, but it had few downloads and few comments. I always wondered why (could it have been ratings?). I am really glad that I found it! I am going to attempt to put a link here....

With a rating of 8 (SteelCopper), I don't think it hurt the downloads. Must have been something else.

I'm like everyone else. I don't even look at the ratings. To me they are just there. Something to look at. I look at all the uploads and download what i like. thats it. To me, that is the way it's suppost to be.

ok, why can't i see ratings for skins? I can rate, but can't see what each skin is rated. Why not?
